Hi friends! I'm linking up to the Fit Tip Tuesday party over at Lisa at The Skinny on Health again this week. My topic today is one that I'm confident everyone can relate to: finding that oomph to exercise when you just don't feel like it. I thought I'd share my tips of how I push myself to go workout on the occasion that I'm not in the mood for it, so here we go! 1.) Read motivational quotes - A quick way that I pump myself up to go exercise is to check out some fitness and life quotes like these... 2.) Pump up the music - Sometimes all I need to find my fitness motivation is to change up my gym playlist or download a few new songs that get my body moving. A few of my current favorite tunes include: Colbie Caillat "Hold On" John Newman "Love Me Again" Ellie Goulding ... [Read More]

Tips for Fitting in Exercise
When life gets really busy, it's easy to let your workouts take a back seat to the many other things you've got going on. But to me, I feel best when I'm exercising on an almost daily basis, so I make it a priority to fit in it even when I'm crazy busy. I've been in New Jersey visiting my loved ones for the holidays for over a week, and although I've had a lot going on, I've managed to exercise 6 out of the 8 days I've been here. Here are a few tips that work for me for fitting in exercise during especially busy times (or just in general!): Schedule it out. Be a planner! Every night when I've gone to bed while on the East coast, I think about my agenda the next day and where/how I could fit in exercise. I make a commitment to myself to just do it, and then I make sure to follow ... [Read More]
Review: Lorna Jane Activewear
Confession: I'm kind of a workout clothing junkie. Not only do I exercise nearly every day, I also work from home the vast majority of the time - where I mostly wear, you guessed it, workout clothes. I even sleep in comfy workout gear sometimes. Since I sport activewear so often, I like my clothes to meet the following criteria: 1.) cute, 2.) fitted yet not too tight, 2.) allow me to move without feeling restricted or constantly falling down, 3.) comfortable, 4.) breathable. <-- I have this one shirt that makes me feel like I'm immediately sweating in it, and I hate that! Now that you have an idea of my love for workout attire, you can understand why I was excited when Lorna Jane contacted me to try out some of their activewear. Lorna Jane is Australia's #1 activewear brand, ... [Read More]
Do What you Can, With What You Have, Where You Are
(source) Have you ever seen someone nutty enough to go to the gym with a cast on (or done so yourself?)? Well, in the very unlikely chance that you go to my gym, you recently may have... because I've been back working out at the gym! After 2 weeks of staying away from the gym and doing light at-home workouts due to my foot injury, I decided to try going to the gym. Since I only have light weights at home, I wanted to head to the gym to do some heavier upper body strength training. It certainly has been challenging to come up with exercises where I'm not putting pressure on my foot, but I've been managing to do some pretty good arm/back/ab workouts. There has been a lot of sitting on a bench or stability ball, and it's a bit tough taking it easy... but my improvised workouts and ... [Read More]
Foot Injury Update & My Favorite At-Home Exercises That Put No/Low Pressure on the Feet
Happy, happy weekend everyone! It's been a low-key Saturday for me so far - sleeping in, eating delicious whole wheat oatmeal blueberry banana pancakes (They are seriously the only pancakes I've made recently!), taking Harley for a long walk, and now here I am. Adam got an awesome hiking backpack for his birthday that he wanted to try out, so he went for a hike and I'm here sulking because I can't hike and blogging to you all. Since I'm laying on the couch icing my foot, I figured this is a good time for an injury update. As I briefly mentioned last week, I have been wearing a soft cast on my foot. When I went to the podiatrist, he confirmed that I have sesamoiditis (further explanation of that here), and that one of my sesamoid bones looks a lot worse than the other and is probably ... Avoiding Pigging Out After Workouts
While checking out the July/August issue of Fitness magazine tonight, one of the cover stories caught my eye: How to Beat Post-Workout Pig-Outs. You see, I recently realized that I kept coming home from the gym feeling starving and wanting to just shove food in my mouth - as of late, handfuls of cereal, dried fruit, and spoonfuls of peanut butter were my picks. Since I most often workout in the late afternoon/early evening and make dinner once I come home, I'm about to eat soon after I exercise anyways. But in the time it takes me to get home, prep dinner, and then sit down to eat it, I found myself eating unnecessary calories. Once I realized that this was something I'd been doing that I did not want to make a usual habit, I came up with a few minor adjustments to make in order to help ... [Read More]
