''C'mon, Get Happy!" Last night I was reading the latest issue of Shape magazine, and as usual when I'm enjoying a magazine, I tore a few articles out for future reference. One of the articles I liked was called ''C'mon, Get Happy!" and discussed a blueprint to help one feel more joyful. The author's strategies to feeling happier resonated with me, and I thought I'd share them with you: Embrace ''Good Enough" - The idea here is to resist the urge to be a perfectionist. Wanting everything to be flawless all the time stresses you out and isn't attainable. Strive to do things well and your best, but don't go so far that you make yourself nuts. Talk Yourself Up - According to new findings, sharing accomplishments and good news with others multiples the joy factor. In other words, ... [Read More]

Cinnamon Obsessed
Happy Tuesday! It's been somewhat of a typical day around here, except for my hubby being home again today from work. He had a 4-day weekend for Veterans Day, which has been awesome! I worked throughout the morning and afternoon, and then we decided to go for a motorcycle ride right before it got dark out this evening. This was the first time I've gone riding with him zipping full speed down the highway. It was fun (and only a teeny bit scary!) to go on a thrill ride by the beach. Moving onto my workout challenge this week, I have to admit that I'm sore right now from yesterday's exercises! It's funny how achy your body can feel from doing something different, even if it's only 7 minutes worth of movement. My numbers today were: 57 push ups, 61 sit ups (the same exact number as ... Skinny Penne A La Vodka
There's nothing like starting off my day with a good sweat session. I began my Sunday by going for a nice hike with Harley, and it was a perfect morning outside. Good cardio + a sleepy puppy before 10 am = awesomeness! Dinner I printed out a recipe for low-calorie penne a la vodka from the Shape magazine website a few months ago, and was waiting until I had a yen for pasta to try it out. Last night I was in a pasta mood, and when I got a whiff of my fragrant basil plant, wanted to use some for my dinner. I made a few changes to their recipe , such as nixing the pine nuts and adding spinach to the mix to add some veggie vitamins. Don't expect it to taste like the creamy, full-fat penne vodka version you'd get a restaurant, but this dish came out pretty tasty. Skinny Penne a la ... [Read More]
I’m All About the Produce
Growing up a vegetarian, I've always eaten a lot of fruits and veggies, but recently, I decided to be even more conscious of what I'm eating on a daily basis. I made it a rule to make sure to eat at least one fruit or veggie every time I ate. The exception to this is snacks, as I'll have a protein bar, dessert, or other nosh that sometimes won't involve any produce. I'm constantly throwing a piece of fruit into or on the side of everything and anything, and I definitely feel like incorporating as much produce as I can to my meals fills me up more and provides me with an ample amount of vitamins and antioxidants. In this week's installment of "what this vegetarian ate today," my Monday eats are a typical example of this rule: Breakfast: A frozen berry bowl Lunch: Kashi 7 grain waffles ... [Read More]
