Hello from Amsterdam! After a long trip - one that included traffic, a layover, an overnight flight with hardly any sleep, missed trains, and getting lost trying to find my hotel - I made it to my hotel this morning and had a chance to enjoy this lovely city. Let me back up though, and share with you a post I wrote en route to Chicago yesterday (I had to pause and figure out if it was technically earlier today, yesterday or two days ago - that's what travel and no sleep will do to ya ;-) ). Remembering 9/11 Though I don’t want to get too into it and freak myself out on a day when I’m flying, I want to at least recognize that it’s 9/11. I can’t believe it has been 12 years already since that horrible day that has forever impacted America. Like most people, I’ll never forget ... [Read More]

My New Favorite Juice: Minty Green Monster Lemonade
Hello, hello! You know when you're about to go on a trip and you have about 27 things to do before you leave the next morning? Yup, that's me right now. This trip is more complicated than usual ones in that I'll be heading to Amsterdam first for work (which leaves me busy with getting things done for that), then heading to three different countries for vacation. I'm very excited! But instead of being productive with that stuff, for the next few moments I'm taking a breather and chatting with you all. Forewarning though, this post may be a bit like my brain right now - all over the place and going a mile a minute! Bear with me my friends. Even though all of the places I'm going in Europe will have people who speak at least some English, it'd be nice to know the basics of the local ... [Read More]
Thursday Travel Throwback: NOLA
Happy Thursday! I can't believe it's almost the end of the week already. I've been off with the days all week, but don't short work weeks rock? I've been enjoying the official kickoff to the NFL season this evening with my little family and this grub... ...nachos! I healthified (how is this not a real word?) them a bit by using multigrain chips and light cheese, and adding veggie crumbles and lots of avocado, tomato & lettuce. Yum. Today is my last post in my Thursday Travel Throwback series, as I'm leaving for my Euro trip in less than a week! Previous posts in the series have included Sicily, Hawaii, and a cross-country trip... and today I'm going to share with you my long weekend getaway to New Orleans! In 2009, my Marine and I briefly lived in Florida near Pensacola in ... [Read More]
Thursday Travel Throwback: Hawaii
Hello, hello! Welcome to Part 2 of my Thursday Travel Throwback series. Last week I featured my time in Sicily, and this week I'm talking about... Hawaii! During my Marine's first deployment, I met him for a week in Waikiki. It was 8 months after our civil ceremony and 6 months before our big wedding shindig, so we consider our Hawaii vacation to have been our honeymoon. Naturally, we spent a lot of time lounging on the beach relaxing... We also did some touring around the island to some cool spots, including Hanuama Bay... ...and this gorgeous lookout point: I love that photo so much, I had it blown up into a canvas picture that is now hanging in my kitchen! In Hawaii, I was pretty much obsessed with getting flowers arrangements made to wear in my hair. They were so ... [Read More]
Thursday Travel Throwback: Sicily
Hi there! Ever since I talked about my upcoming vacation earlier this week, I've had travel on my brain. Earlier today I posted a photo on Instagram from my vacation in Thailand last year: I started thinking about how I've mentioned some of my trips on the blog, but haven't gone into good detail of some of my favorite travels from before I started Foodie Loves Fitness. I thought it might be fun to relive them a bit and do a few recaps, and so for the next month until I go on my Euro trip, I'm going to do a Thursday travel throwback post - starting today with Sicily! Growing up in the heavily Italian-influenced state of New Jersey and having a heritage of being half Italian, I had always wanted to go to Italy. So when I saw that my college was offering a study abroad program in ... [Read More]
The Countdown Begins
Good morning from sunny California! I type as I sit here eating my late breakfast of a big ole bowl of fruit. Yum. Thus far, my weekend has been a lot of fun. On Friday night my hubby and I went to Clos LaChance winery for a wine member party. We picked up our latest wine shipment, enjoyed a glass of wine on the house, and listened to some live music. Yesterday my day was spent in San Francisco. A friend I grew up with, Ashley, was in town with her boyfriend on vacation. She and I have been friends since we began cheerleading together as young kids. We even shared a parking spot and drove to school together our senior year of high school. She lives in Jersey and I don't get to see her often, so it was great to have a double date lunch together and catch up a bit! After we ... [Read More]
