Happy Leap Day! Random thought: I don't know anyone whose birthday is today. I'm curious if more people with this birthday celebrate the date before or the day after when it's not a leap year? Hmmmm. Yesterday I took Harley to the doctor for a check-up. I mentioned that we go hiking and the vet recommended doing shock collar rattlesnake training, so that she'll be trained to stay away from snakes if she sees them. I obviously don't want Harley to run up to a snake and get bit, but shock training?! Call me a softy, but I think that sounds a little harsh. When we went for a lunchtime hike today, I noticed the above sign and started thinking not only of park safety from rattlesnakes, but my safety overall. While my husband is deployed, I'm keenly aware of my surroundings, and ... [Read More]

At Home Workout & Vanilla Pumpkin Smoothie
I spent my afternoon wine tasting with a group of military wives at a winery in Escondido. The wife who set the whole get together up had a really good idea of making it a sort of Valentine's Day celebration. She had all the husbands tell her their nicknames for their wives, and then she painted the names onto wine glasses that we tasted with and got to keep. I also got a handwritten letter from Adam and a flower. So cute! The winery had a pretty backdrop: Not a bad way to spend part of my Sunday! Today's Workout I don't always like to hit up the gym to exercise, especially on weekends. This morning I decided to do a workout at home and came up with a total body routine. It took me around 20 minutes to complete this first part, and all you need is a set of light ... [Read More]
A Very Cherry Friday
Harley is not a good running buddy. She sprints ahead then suddenly stops to smell flowers (or dog poop). She jerks herself from one side of me to the other. She feels the need to try to say "hi" to every canine and human being she sees. And even though she has a super high energy level, her running stamina is lower than mine (ha!). She's more of a sprinter. In ten minutes flat it goes from her pulling me to run obnoxiously fast, to her running by my side, to me pulling her to keep running. For a person who doesn't love running, it'd be more fitting for me to have a dog whose a great runner and pushes me. Instead, I'm the motivator! Nevertheless, between boxing all week and strength training my biceps and shoulders on Wednesday, pretty much my whole body is feeling achy today ... [Read More]
A 30-Minute Treadmill Workout for Those Who Hate to Run
My Deal with Running I've been athletic and exercised on a constant basis my entire life. But for some reason, I'm just not a runner. I've never enjoyed it. And that's coming from me, who actually loves to workout. Even as a kid playing soccer, I remember feeling like I was going to die after we ran sprints. Not much has changed since then. The first time my husband deployed, I decided that I would add running to my workout routine as something new. Even though I disliked the actual running, I loved how I felt after a hard (well, hard for me!) run. I wasn't training for anything in particular, but decided I would build up my running endurance and then figure out a specific race/distance to do. I got up to running 5 miles at the end of my workouts, and I thought I was doing pretty ... [Read More]
