I started off my day getting a root canal at the orthodontist bright and early. While it was certainly unpleasant, on the bright side, I actually liked the doctor. This is rare since I've had more than my fair share of nutty doctors and overly rough dentist experiences. She made me feel comfortable (well, as comfy as you can feel with objects forcing your mouth open), and totally reminded me of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: Ha, remember that show? I'm not sure if I just have bad reactions to dental work, but I'm damn near useless the rest of the day after I have something done to my teeth. After my root canal this morning, I alternated between doing work from my couch and laying in the fetal position cuddling with Harley. I did get manage to get outside a bit. I wanted to at least do a bit ... [Read More]

Kiwi Lime Smoothie
For the past several years, I have not been a fan of lime. I think it's mostly because I've been scarred from a, uh, night of too many tequila & lime shots a long time ago. However, I now think that my lime hating days are over! Recently I've had a few key lime martinis and have enjoyed them, a couple weeks ago I started munching on key lime gum and didn't mind it, and then today I drank this: Bright and early first thing this morning, I took Harley hiking. Besides Harley's continuous attempts to eat random poop on the ground due to her electing not to eat breakfast before we went (yeah, gross!), it was a typical hike for us -- which means it was full of sweat, elevated heart rates, tired legs, and lots of endorphins flowing. When I got home, I wanted a nice cold smoothie to help ... [Read More]
Funny Dog Names + What I Ate Wednesday
I met some adorable dogs volunteering at the Humane Society tonight: Lillian reminded me of Harley. She was super sweet and just a total cutie. I quickly saw her stubborn side when we were all the way down the street. I tried to turn us around to go back but Lillian simply refused. She just sat there with a smiling face as if to say, ''No thanks lady, I'm good out here!" It took a whole lot of convincing to get her back inside, and her strong-willed personality was similar to how Harley can be. I really can't blame her, as she seemed very social and probably would rather hang around people and be outside all day long. I just love that happy face! Favorite April Eats
Happy May!! I thought it'd be fun to recap my top recipes from last month and highlight a few foods I've frequently been eating, so here goes! My Top 5 April Recipes: #1 - Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups #2 - Watermelon Smoothie #3 - Peanut Japanese Noodles with Broccoli #4 - Oatmeal Cinnamon Raisin Pancakes #5 - Rigatoni with Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto Foods I'm loving: Cascadian Farms Cinnamon Crunch This cereal is deeeeliciousss. It's like cinnamon toast crunch, but better for you. A 1-cup serving has 110 calories and 8 g sugar, making it a great nighttime snack. I love to eat it with some chocolate protein powder + almond milk. Its only downfall is being slightly addictive... Fun flavored Chobani ... [Read More]
Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie
When I blogged about my favorite eats & drinks on my recent vacation to Thailand, I gushed about all the fresh fruit I ate. My favorites were watermelon and pineapple, both of which are so refreshing on a hot day (which I needed since it was 100 and humid there!). The only thing more thirst-quenching than plain old fruit is a fruit smoothie, which I also had in abundance on my vacay. My favorite flavor was watermelon. They tasted simple and delicious, like there weren't added sugars or anything else. I made a mental note to try making a watermelon smoothie in the near future when I was home, and today, I did just that. This 3-ingredient smoothie is my new favorite ridiculously easy thing to make! I love that it's fitting as a small meal (it was my breakfast this AM), snack, or ... [Read More]
Either You Do it, or You Don’t.
Ever have one of those evenings where you're just not feeling dinner? No "dinner" food sounded appealing to me tonight, and I wanted something cold, so I made a new yummy smoothie combo. Post-workout, this smoothie is great because it packs a good amount of protein, 2 servings of fruit, and fulfills the following amounts of daily vitamin recommendations: 15% Vitamin A, 115% of Vitamin C, 72% Calcium, and 13% iron. Not too shabby! Strawberry Banana Smoothie 1 6-oz Chobani strawberry banana yogurt 1/2 frozen or fresh banana 1 cup frozen strawberries 1 cup (unsweetened) almond milk 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder (Designer Whey) Stats: 350 calories, 8 g fat, 26 g protein, 49 g carbs [Side note: my new favorite Chobani yogurt is definitely their strawberry banana ...
