Hello, and Happy Friday! I didn't have a chance to publish my normal Friday morning post and I'm feeling analytical, so we're switching gears a bit this afternoon to dive into a discussion about using food as a coping mechanism... I've always been really interested in psychology and the way that people think, behave and interact. I've also always been passionate about food and healthy living, which is why getting my degree is communication studies and later on earning my health coaching certification both just made sense (Perhaps a Masters in psych is in my future as well, ya never know!). This is why I've always loved watching documentaries - particularly ones that relate to health (and also ones that relate to crime, but that's a topic for another day...). My less interested ... Healthy Smoothies Made Easy with Green Blender {Review}
Smoothies. They're kind of a never-ending obsession in my household. It's an almost daily occurrence in my diet to blend up a bunch of goodness into one nutritious, delicious cup. While my hubby has his standard go-to smoothie (a chocolate peanut butter protein shake), I like to switch it up. However, sometimes in the busyness of life, I feel like I lack smoothie creativity. I'll get into a routine of making my same few smoothie favorites. Don't get me wrong, they're delicious, but I could use some new smoothie ideas sometimes. And that's where Green Blender smoothie delivery service comes in. Recently the NYC-based company reached out to see if I'd like to try them out, and I happily agreed to see what they're all about. When my delivery arrived, I was like a little kid in a toy ... [Read More]
My HIIT Studio 6-Week Challenge Health & Fitness Results
Hello, hello! Last weekend marked the end of a 6-week challenge that I participated in with my favorite HIIT studio, The Fit Mill. I collaborated with the studio as the health coach for the challenge, and was a participant as well. We're all a work in progress, and I had goals that I was striving to reach at the same time that I was supporting the participants in reaching their own. The premise? A 6-week "Transformation" challenge to kick off 2016 in high gear. The rules were that participants had to workout at The Fit Mill 4 days each week, and then the studio and I provided goals, recommendations, tips, recipes, and support throughout the challenge. Pre-challenge and post-challenge evaluations were held to take measurements and gage fitness levels on a variety of exercises. The ... [Read More]
Split Personality Eating: Is it Beneficial or Harmful to Our Health?
"Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you who you are." - Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin Are you a person who does a juice cleanse one day, then goes out for 4-course indulgent meal that weekend? Then you, my friend, are not alone. Recently I read an interesting article in Shape magazine about the recent trend of 'split personality' eating patterns, such as egg whites & spinach for breakfast, followed by fettuccine alfredo for dinner, and I thought it would be interesting to chat about it today. After I read it, I kept noticing the examples of extreme eating all around me. Businesses geared towards healthy living, like juice bars and healthy meal delivery companies, are on the rise at the very same time that donut shops and gourmet cupcake spots have become all the rage. ... Dating Myself This Valentine’s Day Weekend
Hi friends! Well, last weekend marked 2016's holiday of love... and while I love any excuse to celebrate my relationship with my husband, I also like taking time around each Valentine's Day to show myself some love. Self-love is a topic I've written about probably a dozen times, and it's a subject that I like to chat about with you guys because it is so important. You can't have a truly healthy life without having a healthy, positive self-relationship. Sometimes we're all so busy running around handling our business and taking care of everyone else in our life, that we forget that we deserve to be taken care of too. We need to love ourselves first, because a healthy self-relationship forms the backbone of all of the other relationships you have in your life. The concept of ... [Read More]
New 1:1 Health Coaching Offering!
My active, healthy lifestyle is such a big part of my life. As a health coach, I love getting the opportunity to share some of my knowledge and passion about health, and to help support my clients in reaching their healthy living goals. I believe there's no greater feeling than feeling healthy & happy from the inside out! That feeling transcends into every other part of life. Making an active lifestyle a priority, feeling like you have the power in your diet, and coping with stress in healthy ways are some of the things that I work on with my clients. Normally, I offer a 6-month health coaching program, where the client and I "meet" (via in person, Skype or phone) every other week to hold an hourlong session. In between those meetings, we often communicate via email, ... [Read More]
