If you look up the word balance in the dictionary, this is what you'll see: 1.) a state of equilibrium or equipoise 2.) mental steadiness or emotional stability; habit of calm behavior, judgment, etc. Balance is a really important word to me. It's something I strive for in pretty much every area of my life. In trying to tone up more, I've been thinking a lot lately about what the right balance is for me between indulgences & ''goodies" and more nutritious fare. It really is a balancing act because if you restrict yourself too much to achieve a certain weight or look, you'll most likely wind up burning out and flipping the switch in the other direction sooner or later, then overeating to compensate for all of the restrictiveness you've been enduring. To have a healthy ... [Read More]

Hi friends! Today was a busy, productive day full of work, errands and exercise. Now I'm hanging out with my little family, feeling content and quite tired. I thought I'd share 3 highlights of my day with you, hence my title, Three Thing Tuesday: #1 - When I woke up today, I found out that I've been accepted as an Ambassador for Girls Gone Sporty, a fun group dedicated to sharing the top products, trends, and ideas for advancing the fit and adventurous lifestyle of ''sporty girls." The GGS crew looks for Ambassadors who embrace their tagline, ''Live the sporty life!” Women who work hard, play hard, compete, and eat, all with the intention of being their best, most positive selves. I feel that I fit this description pretty well, and I'm completely thrilled that the folks at GGS ... [Read More]

Holy Guacamole! My Go-To Easy Guac
When it comes to healthy eating, a big piece of the puzzle is moderation. If you're trying to trim down or just aiming to eat healthier, it doesn't mean that you can never treat yourself. What it does mean is that you need to be mindful of the foods you eat and watch your portions. Giving into your food cravings here and there is perfectly conducive to losing weight, but here's the catch: If you want something, let's say ice cream, eat a cup. It won't wreck your diet. But don't bring a gallon of it to the couch with you and dig in with your spoon until you're stuffed. And if you do wind up going with the latter option, once you've eaten it, be done with it. So many people, myself included, will overdo it one night, but instead of moving on and forgetting about it, have a tendency to beat ... [Read More]

Happy Hump Day! I think we can all agree that a big component of healthy eating is understanding serving sizes. I believe a lot of people have a hard time comprehending what a portion looks like because it's so common for restaurants to serve single meals that contain 3 or 4 servings of food, or for a sports drink to actually contain 3 servings of beverage. In a world of excess and super sized eats, it's important to remember that moderation is key, but we can't eat only a serving of something if we have no idea how much that actually is. What does 2 oz of dry spaghetti look like? How about 1 oz of cheese? Or a serving of cashews? I used to guesstimate these things all the time... until I started using one of my now favorite little kitchen tools, a food scale. These days, ... [Read More]
Tips for Making Smart Choices in Unhealthy Environments
Happy Sunday Funday! Our job as puppy babysitters has come to an end. Hogan was adorable and fun to play with, but watching him for a few days reminded me of how far we've come as dog owners with our Harley girl. It is so nice to be out of that puppy stage and for her to be fully potty trained, no longer teething and way more chilled out. I'm happy with just having one dog and think it's safe to say that we won't be getting a new puppy anytime soon! This weekend was a very sporty one for me. Last night we went to the Chargers/Cowboys preseason game. I'm a huge NY Giants fan, but it was a really fun time finally going to an NFL game in San Diego. It was even better because the Chargers were playing the Cowboys, who I strongly dislike, so last night I was all Go Chargers! and just rooting ... [Read More]
