The idea of doing a cleanse to flush toxins and give my body a bit of a rest has always been interesting to me. But the idea of only juicing is not my idea of a fun time. Every time I've tried to do nothing but juice, I find myself hangry with little self-control by late afternoon - not to mention the fact that after several green juices, I'm practically repulsed at the thought of drinking another one. Let's face it, I'm a foodie and I love to eat! So instead, I've tried different kinds of cleanses - ones that involve chewing - like the Vegetarian Times 7-ingredient cleanse (posts on that here and here). I took a cue from that cleanse to come up with my own version of a cleanse last week! Because I'm active and like to work out, I like to feed my muscles. One thing that bugs me about ... [Read More]

My First Yoga Sculpt Experience
Hi friends! A couple of weeks ago I talked about heated workouts, and I shared with you all that I'm not the biggest fan of them due to me being a baby about super warm rooms. Well, after publishing that post, I wound up using the last of my 5-class pass at that gym to try out one more heated workout: yoga sculpt! (source) I really only wound up doing the class because I really wanted to try yoga sculpt, and the gym only offers the class in heated rooms... so I found myself back in a sauna-like room working out once more! I discovered 2 things from taking the class: 1.) Yoga sculpt is fabulous, and 2.) I don't mind heated rooms if they're under a certain temperature. The instructor had the room at 85 degrees with 65 percent humidity, and I actually didn't feel like I was going ... [Read More]
My Tips for Eating Healthy When Dining Out
Hello, hello! My weekend flew by, Monday was a very busy day, and now here we are and it's Tuesday already. Over the weekend, I was quite the lunchin' lady, with two restaurant get togethers on my agenda. One date was catching up with my first friend that I made as a Marine Corps wife, and the other was meeting a new friend for the first time who I had connected with via social media. Dining out can be challenging if you're trying to lead a healthy lifestyle, so I wanted to share with you some things that I do to maintain a healthy diet when eating out. Let's get to it! Tip #1 - All in moderation: If you want to enjoy something indulgent, I say go for it. I think that you should be able to have your cake and eat it too.... but preferably, that cake is a small slice. In ... [Read More]
My New Favorite Hiking Spot: Elfin Forest
Meet my new favorite place to go hiking: When I moved back to San Diego County a few months ago, it was funny because although I was back in a general area that I had lived in before, I'm 45 minutes north from where I had lived prior. It has been like learning the ins and outs of a whole new place, although the area is familiar. One of the first things I started searching for in my new area was new favorite hiking spots. After all, hiking is one of my favorite things to do. It's not only a way that I get exercise and exercise my dog, it's also a meditative practice for me. It's a way that I process things and clear my head. Often, I start off a hike with a dilemma or just something that I'm contemplating, and by the time I get back in my car, I've resolved it. Escondido's Elfin ... [Read More]
Watermelon Cucumber Mint Juice
Lately I've been obsessed with watermelon - and rightly so I think, as it's such a refreshing summertime fruit. You may have noticed this because of my frequent mention of watermelon smoothies. Can't.stop.making.them! Besides blending smoothies, making salads like this one with it, and eating watermelon all on its own, I've also thrown it in my juicer a bunch of times lately. Does anyone else drink fresh juice out of a wine glass? I realized that I haven't posted a juice recipe in awhile, but that's not because I haven't been juicing. It's more so because for a few months there, I got a little boring with my juices: always apple, carrots, and ginger, and then I'd often thrown in spinach or cucumber. When I realized that I was in a juicing rut, I decided to get a little ... [Read More]
An Early Birthday Celebration & Desserts Galore [Weekend Recap]
Hi friends! I haven't been around the past bunch of days, and I've missed blogging! The reason I've been a bit MIA is because my father-in-law flew in from the east coast to visit my hubby and me. I've been busy having fun around town and hosting him in our new home. Although we had a couple of days of overcast skies, we also had a few days with gorgeous weather to enjoy. We spent all Sunday afternoon at the beach soaking up the sun in Carlsbad: When guests come to town, I inevitably wind up whipping up a lot of yummy food for us to enjoy. What can I say, I show my love with food! My father-in-law went gluten free earlier this year, so I had a bit of a fun challenge in coming up with all GF fare. He also has a huge sweet tooth, so I knew that dessert was a must. One dessert hit was ... [Read More]
