"Babe, you have to come in here and watch this," my husband yelled to me as I cooked dinner while he relaxed in the living room one night last week. He then proceeded to rewind the Sports Illustrated behind-the-scenes show he was watching where they talked about one of the models, Robyn Lawley, being a "plus- sized" model who represents the average woman in America: Both his and my reaction were the same in thinking that Robyn - whose absolutely gorgeous - didn't look like a plus-sized woman on the show. I do realize that in the modeling world, Robyn is indeed considered plus-sized, I just think it's kind of crazy. I can't help but feel that the modeling industry is totally warped and out of touch with what the vast majority of real women look like for Robyn to be categorized as ... [Read More]

What Do You Look for in a Gym? My Must-Have List
Hi friends! I'm writing this on Thursday night, as I'm coasting on an exercise high from a workout that ClassPass hosted at The Rush Indoor Cycling Studio tonight. I had never been to the studio before, and found it to be a lot like SoulCycle (review of me trying that out in NYC here): a fast-paced cycling workout with good music and high energy. Thanks for hosting the fun event, ClassPass! Any other American readers have off of work on Monday for Presidents Day? I do, and I'm pretty excited for the long weekend! But back to fitness! Recently I talked about how I haven't been a member at a regular gym since moving last year. I decided that I'd like to shop around for a normal gym to possibly join. I did a free trial at a gym a few weeks ago, and while they had all of the ... [Read More]
Being Gym-less + Gigabody Online Fitness Class Subscription Giveaway
Ever since I was a teenager, I've belonged to a regular gym.... that is, until last year, when I moved and left my beloved, cozy gym full of friendly people and didn't begin a membership somewhere new. Since then I've tried out a few regular gyms, but haven't found one that I've loved enough to join as a member. While I'll probably join a gym sometime in the near future to switch things up, I certainly haven't been bored during these months. Between hiking around Southern Cali and other outdoor workouts, trying out a couple of new workouts with Groupon, doing a few fitness collaborations for the blog, including trying out ClassPass and working out at Fitwall, taking challenging classes instructed by my newly Lagree method certified friend (Core40 review here!), and working it out ... Date Night in Carlsbad {Weekend Recap}
Hi friends! I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend. My long weekend was a great one, and here were some of its highlights: I kicked off my weekend with a walk along the beach with my little family. I had planned on getting an at-home workout in afterwards, but wound up not feeling like it at all. Most of the time when I'm feeling this way I just push through an exercise session, but once in a blue moon I just skip it - especially when I've worked out every other day that week as was the case on Friday night. Instead of working out I baked banana bread, read blogs, made white broccoli pizza and watched a movie.....and it was fabulous. Saturday morning I met up with a few other women for a hike at Torrey Pines State Beach. It was a perfect day weather-wise, and ... [Read More]
The Blog Turns Three!
A few days ago I got a WordPress alert on my phone telling me that it had been THREE years since my first WordPress post. Wow, the years have completely sped by! It's crazy to think about how when I started blogging, I had no idea what a great part of my life it would become. My hubby had just deployed, and I decided to start what was then called Foodie Meets Fitness as a new hobby and a way to share more of my day-to-day life and recipes with loved ones 2,500 miles away. Since then there has been a lot of change and growth around here! ... [Read More]
Embracing What is | Monserate Mountain Hike Recap
Hiking is one of my favorite ways to clear my head, enjoy nature and practice mindfulness. I always consider it time well spent as I'm trekking up a mountain, feeling the breeze, and taking in the scenery, and every time I reach the peak, I do so with a grateful heart. (source) However, just as with everything in life, sometimes hikes don't go exactly as planned. This was the case last weekend, when I set out to try hiking a new trail: Monserate Mountain in the nearby town of Fallbrook. Sometimes when hikes don't go exactly as planned, it's because I get lost while I'm actually hiking; other times I get lost trying to get to the trail itself. The latter was the case last Saturday. One of the challenges of finding new hikes is figuring out how to actually get there, since I find ... [Read More]
