It's no secret that I have a sweet tooth that I indulge often. I think that life is too short to not enjoy some dessert here and there. One kind of dessert that I most definitely am a fan of is ice cream. Recently, Arctic Zero reached out to me to see if I'd like to try some of their frozen desserts. I was intrigued by their products because they're: Gluten and fat free Non-GMO Made with whey protein Free from artificial sweeteners or flavors Sweetened with monk fruit and organic cane sugar 150 calories per PINT I immediately knew that I had to try these desserts. I mostly eat fro yo or light ice cream to avoid the excess fat and calories in real ice cream, but Arctic Zero appeared to take guilt-free desserts to a whole new healthy level. When I came home to my fun Arctic Zero package, ... [Read More]

My Favorite Ways to Eat Apples
Happy Halloween friends! (source) I SO should have made Harley wear this for the occasion! I don't even attempt Halloween costumes because she hates clothes on her and I do admit that the idea is totally ridiculous, but something like this I might be able to get away with. I'm keeping it in my mind for next year, since she's already a satellite dish as I mentioned in my last post. Ha! Well, in about 10 days my hubby and I managed to eat all of the apples we picked (and also the 6-8 apples that we already had in the house!). Last night I went off of this recipe from Sarah at Making Thyme for Health to use the last of them to make BBQ tempeh burgers with cheddar + apple & radicchio slaw: It's safe to say that we're quite apple obsessed this fall. There are a lot of different ... [Read More]
WIAW: Still Loving Apples, Cashews & Lentils
Hi and Happy Wednesday, though most of your days have already come to an end! I feel like this week has been zipping by. Thanks to you ladies for your sweet comments on yesterday's post. Like a few of you mentioned, what matters most is how I feel in my own skin. Living healthily and happily is a constant balancing act, and I'm just trying to find that (almost) perfect balance that makes me feel best -- although I must add that I feel pretty happy and healthy already! With that being said, today I'm joining the Peas and Crayon linkup party for a What I Ate Wednesday post. It's actually all of my eats from yesterday, and includes a few of my recent food loves: apples, cashews and lentils. Breakfast: chopped apple sprinkled with cinnamon + almond butter + Kashi Go Lean! Crunch ... [Read More]
Chocolate Covered Strawberry Hazelnut Smoothie
Happy Friday all! My day entailed work, a gym session, taking Harley for a lunchtime walk at the park on this hot but nice day... ...and pizza night! I just enjoyed a few slices of a homemade pie I made: whole wheat dough + mozzarella + roasted red pepper + tomato + fresh basil + arugula + sea salt. The endless possibilities of pizza combinations ensure that making it never gets old! To feed the curiosity that some of you have about what the hell a vegetarian eats from meal to meal (or really, what THIS vegetarian eats), today's topic is one of my What I Ate Wednesday posts... only it's 2 days late, because I was more excited to talk about quinoa green bean salad and throwback travel posts about studying abroad in Sicily this week! My day's eats started off in a pretty usual ... [Read More]
Blogger Dinner at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza & Grill La Jolla
Happy first day of spring! As a vegetarian and healthy eater, I'm usually able to find a thing or two on the menu at a restaurant that seems to be both somewhat nutritious AND delicious. Fortunately, more & more I'm finding places that seem to be dedicated to including lots of menu items for health conscious diners. One restaurant in my area that's doing this is Sammy's Woodfired Pizza & Grill. The restaurant has numerous locations throughout California and Nevada. I was recently invited me to come try out some of their new healthy dishes at their location in La Jolla. With website taglines including: Eat Well. Feel Good.; We Like it Fresh; and Serving Healthy Global Cuisine, I knew it was a place I could get behind. Last night, Adam and I headed to Sammy's for a health ... [Read More]
Green Juice of the Week: Pineapple Sunrise
After taking a few days off from making green drinks, this morning I broke out my juicer to whip up a new concoction. The juicer is quite a bitch to clean (okay, I may be exaggerating here - it probably takes 3 minutes to clean, but it's still a pain!), but I'm a fan of getting so much goodness in one little drink and starting my day off healthily! I just lovvveee pineapple. It brings me back to my trip to Thailand, where I ate some of the fresh fruit probably every day I was there. This drink may look green, but all I could taste was a yummy combo of pineapple + orange. I'll definitely be making this one again soon! Pineapple Sunrise 1 1/2 cups of fresh pineapple1 large carrot1 cup of kale (center ribs removed)1 navel orangeA large handful of raw spinach Combine ... [Read More]
