My favorite kind of weekends are those that have a good balance of busyness and relaxation. These past few days were just the right mix of things. Highlights of the weekend include mountain biking, checking out the La Jolla Art & Wine Festival, house hunting (yes, we're looking!), hanging out at the beach for a couple hours and watching football. I also completely unplugged from my computer for a full 24 hours. Between working from home, blogging, and social media, I feel like I'm always on my laptop. It's nice to have a day every so often when I don't even turn my Mac on! Another fun part of my weekend was the NY Giants bandana I ordered for Harley arriving. She completely hates it and keeps biting it, but I can't stop cracking up at how funny she looks with it ... [Read More]

A Simple & Healthy Summer Salad
Volunteering at the SD Humane Society tonight included a lot of puppy playtime! Here are a few of my favorites that I met: The reason why there were so many puppies there is because earlier this year, the SD Humane Society, along with the SD Dept. of Animal Services and SDPD, raided three pet stores that were treating their animals inhumanely. They confiscated over 100 animals, many of which were puppies. This past weekend, these animals became adoptable, hence why it's puppy galore there right now! If you live in the SD area and are interested in getting a young dog, I suggest going to check them out ASAP! Today's Eats Moving onto food, here is a recap of my eats today... My breakfast included Chobani vanilla Greek yogurt with Kashi Go Lean Cinnamon Crumble cereal on ... [Read More]
Today’s Newfound Love: Avocado Hummus
My favorite quote of the day: ''For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald This afternoon I couldn't decide between making guacamole or hummus, so I decided to try combining the two. After whipping it up in my food processor and tasting, I decided my new ... [Read More]
My Favorite Ways to Eat Avocado
Avocados are a good source of a slew of nutrients, including vitamin C, K, B6, folate, fiber and potassium. Though they contain some fat, that's no reason to shy away from them - especially since it's the heart-healthy unsaturated kind! The state I live in happens to be the biggest U.S. producer of the fruit, hence why I'm able to buy them locally to enjoy all the time. My grandma just asked me how I usually eat avocado. She's been eating them plain because she isn't sure what else to do with them. My response was, 'Don't worry, I'll blog about it!' ;-) So here goes, here are my favorite ways to incorporate avocado into my diet: #1 - In Salads: I love eating a caprese salad with avocado , as pictured above. If I'm making a Mexican salad, I like to use avocado as part of my dressing ... [Read More]
