Ooooh, do I have a yummy recipe for you guys today! So, I think that part of being a foodie is often getting mildly obsessed with a certain food or meal. For me, this can go 2 ways: 1.) Sometimes I get a craving for something, and I simply must eat it because the yen just doesn't go away. I eat it once, feel satisfied, and then I'm over it. 2.) I get really into a food/recipe, and I just want to keep making it. I can eat it every week for months on end - such is the case for almond butter, this orzo veggie soup I've been into this winter, or the protein pancakes I've been making every week for heaven knows how long. This leads me to today's recipe. I hadn't had a soft pretzel in years and years, and then my hubby and I went on a weekend adventure to Big Bear Lake, where ... [Read More]

Mediterranean Feta & Lemon Hummus Dip
Hi friends! So, this weekend's the big game in California... and while I have no strong feelings towards one team or the other, I always love a good Super Bowl! The actual game, the half-time show, the obscenely expensive commercial spots... I love it all. And we obviously can't forget about football food! I've been drooling at my computer screen all week checking out my fellow blogger friends' recipes for game day, and today I'm sharing a new yummy one of my own. While I'm a sports fan in general, football is definitely my favorite sport. I grew up with my dad coaching football (still does!), so I think I was kind of bred into loving the sport. I was a competitive cheerleader from ages 7-17 who cheered at many football games, both of my brothers played football growing up (one ... [Read More]
Copycat Lemon Twist Hummus
Last fall, my friend Danielle came into town for the weekend and we had a girls' wine tasting day in Temecula. We had a picnic at one of the wineries, and I had brought apples, cheese, pretzels, almonds, pumpkin bread, and a new flavor of hummus from Sabra called Lemon Twist: We pretty much housed the entire container of delicious hummus into our wine-filled bellies, and I made a mental note to try to recreate lemon twist hummus at home. Last week, my favorite HIIT studio, The Fit Mill, hosted a membership event where we worked out, then enjoyed snacks & wine afterwards. I recently began partnering with The Fit Mill with my health coaching biz, and for the occasion I whipped up a few of my recipes. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to create a copycat lemon twist ... [Read More]
Gram’s Anadama Bread
"Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory." - Dr. Seuss Tomorrow marks a year since my grandma passed away, so today it felt fitting to share with you the recipe for a homemade bread that she often baked. Before last year, I had never experienced the heartache of losing someone really close to me. Sure, there'd been acquaintances, family friends, and relatives that had passed away, but before my grandma died, I hadn't felt what it was like to go through real grief with another person dying - the kind that hits you like a mack truck on random days at random times, when all of a sudden it dawns on you that a person that you loved so much is gone. ... (Super Bowl Recipe Idea Alert!) Chickpea Sliders with Vegan Garlic Aioli
Hi friends! Hope you had a nice weekend! My weekend was pretty low-key, and the highlights were a Friday evening light hike with my little family, a pedi/lunch date with a girlfriend on Saturday and a trip to the dog beach on Sunday afternoon. Do you know what my weekend did not include? Football. Well, technically that's not true, since I did watch a bit of the Pro Bowl when Serena Williams' match at the Australian Open last night went to commercial, but that's only kinda sorta a real NFL game. This is the time of the year when the NFL season ends, and on one hand, it's nice because I have extra time to do other things on Sundays; but on the other hand, I get a little sad because I love watching football and all of a sudden there's this empty hole in my sports viewing life. ... Baked Maple Cinnamon Apples & Sweet Potatoes
Hi friends, and Happy Friday! Before I dive into today's recipe, first thing's first: I've always wanted to write a book. I've been a writer my whole life, and perhaps I'll be in the right place someday to write a cookbook, healthy living book, or something unrelated... BUT, this week marks my first contribution to a book: an e-cookbook called Simply Savvy Healthy that came out earlier this week! It features tons of nutritious & delicious plant-based recipes (including one from me!), and you can check it out on Amazon here. The price is just $2.99 until November 25th, and then it'll go up a few bucks. American readers, can you believe that next week is Thanksgiving? I feel like November is just flying by! Whether hosting a gathering yourself, spending the holiday at a family party, or ... [Read More]
