When I hear the sound of an ice cream truck permeating through the neighborhood in the summertime, I usually think, “Ooh, a frozen sweet treat sounds good right now!” It happens more frequently than I’d think it would. Surprisingly, those old school trucks are still around!
And I mean, what better way to quench my thirst and cool me down, right?
Once in awhile I splurge on indulgent desserts. But most of the time, I satisfy my summer sweet tooth with treats that aren’t full of tons of sugar and calories… and there’s no shortage of options to choose from! Today I’m sharing some ideas for healthy summer desserts to try. From homemade banana ice cream and popsicles to health-conscious, store-bought pops and bars, this list includes some of my favorites.
8 Healthy Summer Dessert Ideas

Craving something refreshing & tropical? Try the 5-ingredient tropical popsicle recipe that I recently created for Shape, which features frozen mango & strawberries + coconut cream. The coconut cream makes them a luscious, creamy treat!
GoodPop Freezer Pops.
These GoodPop 100% fruit juice pops are a constant in my freezer, as my husband is addicted to them! Each pop is around just 40 calories, making them a great little low-calorie dessert when you want something cold & refreshing.
Chocolate Mint Banana Ice Cream.
I love whipping up easy banana ice cream! All you need to make this chocolate mint banana ice cream is 5 ingredients, 5 minutes, and a food processor or high-powered blender.
Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars.
Yasso frozen Greek yogurt bars are one of my go-to buys when I’m in the mood for ice cream bars. At around 100 calories a bar with a nice little protein boost, Yasso bars are a healthy sweet tooth snack. My favorite flavors are the mint chocolate chip and sea salt caramel.
Strawberry Mango Sorbet.
This strawberry mango sorbet recipe was born out of a desire to enjoy a fruity, healthy dessert one night when I had zero ice pops or pints left in my freezer. The 5 wholesome ingredients you need to whip up this sorbet are frozen mango and strawberries, fresh lime, agave nectar and almond milk (or any kind of milk for that matter).
GoodPop Cherry n’ Lemonade Pops.
Another GoodPop product I love is their red, white & blue cherry lemonade pops – reminiscent of the patriotic looking pops you can get from an ice cream truck, only they’re made with 100% fruit juice and no added sugars.
Raspberry Chocolate Chip “Nice” Cream with Fresh Berries.
Made with frozen bananas and raspberries, chocolate chips, and fresh berries, this nice cream recipe will give you a nice dose of produce along with a sweet tooth fill.
