Hi friends!
I took a bit of a blog hiatus last week while my love and I were thoroughly enjoying a getaway to the Turks & Caicos Islands. The mid-80 degree weather, constant sunshine, and gorgeous turquoise water was just what we needed, and we spent all of our time soaking it up by snorkeling, biking, reading on the beach, swimming and kayaking. It was glorious!
While we were on vacation, we had the chance to do a fun photo shoot to celebrate a certain big thing happening in our lives…
….I’m having a baby!
This week marks 15 weeks of pregnancy, and I’m feeling strong & healthy. A few weeks ago we found out that it’s a girl!
I felt that it was a girl all along and had been referring to the growing tiny human inside of me as ‘she’ and ‘her’ from the start. Confirming the gender made my pregnancy feel very real for the first time. Our baby girl is expected to make her debut around Labor Day.
A lot of people assume that after you get married, you’ll soon want babies. Adam and I got married young, with no plans to become parents in the near future. I think some family members didn’t really believe us when we told them as much, and countless people over the almost past decade have randomly whispered questions with winks regarding the possibility of babies in our future. Some have flat-out asked if we were “having problems conceiving.” I think people just get super curious and I mostly just thought it was an interesting psych experiment.
But the truth is, I wasn’t ready for a baby and we were too busy building our careers and adventuring around the world in our 20s. Don’t get me worry, we sure as hell plan to continue doing those things as parents, but now that I’m in my 30s, I feel like I have the ability to nurture all of it well. I’m looking forward to instilling a sense of adventure, passion for doing things you love, and the importance of constantly learning and growing throughout life into my baby girl.
The truth is, we decided perhaps later in 2019 was the time to get pregnant, but we didn’t even get to the “trying” part… because by last December, to our surprise, pregnancy was already underway! Sometimes life is funny in that way, and all we can do is surrender to what the universe has planned for us – even if it’s not what we thought our “plan” was.
Being pregnant has obviously been a major aspect of my life these past couple of months, and I’m looking forward to sharing my journey to motherhood with you all.
My blog has always been a reflection of my life, and while Foodie Loves Fitness will certainly continue to focus on my kitchen creations, workouts, healthy lifestyle topics and travels, moving forward I’ll also have some baby posts sprinkled into the mix. Look out for a 1st trimester recap coming soon!
It’s going to be a baby bumpin’ summer over here in my household this year!

Yes, the beach in Turks & Caicos was so picturesque!

Congratulations to both of you! My best advice is to just enjoy the ride…and get ready because it’s a wild one! Oh, and get a lot of sleep now. Trust me on that one. 🙂

Thanks, David! I wish sleep was something we could sort of stock up on… too bad it doesn’t work that way. I said the same thing about the sunshine in San Diego before moving to the northeast… but soaking up time outdoors in Cali before moving did in fact NOT sustain me happily through the dreary winter bahaha
