In 2017, I began sharing a quote on Instagram every Monday. I’ve always been an inspirational quote lover, and it was fun to find a quote of the week to share.
In 2018, I sort of did away with always posting the quote on Mondays, but I continued to share words of wisdom just about every week that resonated with whatever was happening in my life at the time.
Since I know that many of you also look to quotes as a way to motivate, I thought it’d be fun to share some of my favorite quotes that I posted in 2018. These words of wisdom have energized me and reminded me of what I want to focus on in life, and I hope that they speak to you in the same way. Enjoy!
1.) Be your own kind of beautiful. We constantly have the media and people around us tell us what we should look like and behave, but at the end of the day, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. What’s important is feeling beautiful from the inside out, which to me includes being a good, kind-hearted person, as well as leading a healthy lifestyle and practicing self-care so that I feel confident and comfortable in my own skin.
2.) The more your praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate. Gratitude has a way of multiplying our blessings, doesn’t it?
3.) Our lives begin to end when we become silent about things that matter.
4.) Compassion is so often the solution. Given the recent political atmosphere in America, I thought about compassion, and the sometime lack thereof, a lot last year. In the end, I think that having compassion for people is the cornerstone of what makes us humans, human.
5.) Eating well is a form of self-respect. I very strongly believe this one! If you put the effort into eating well, you’re essentially putting effort into your body, your health and your future. It was Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin who said, “Tell me what you eat, I’ll tell you who you are.”
6.) The greatest wealth is health. Amen!
7.) She made a promise to herself to hold her own well-being sacred. That promise is something we all must make to ourselves to be happy and healthy people.
8.) Integrity is choosing courage over comfort; choosing what is right over what is fun, fast or easy; and choosing to practice our values rather than simply professing them.
9.) Kind people are my kinda people…. always!
10.) Life is like a bicycle: To keep your balance, you must keep moving. Well isn’t that the truth? I shared this quote after buyers backed out of a contract to buy my San Diego home. I was pretty bummed, and was attempting to remind myself not to dwell on it and to just keep moving forward.
11.) Life is short and the world is wide. I shared this quote when I was about to embark on a 2,600 mile road trip from California to New York – where I got to see a bunch of places in the U.S. that I’d never been before, including Austin, Dallas, Asheville and Nashville.
Check out my cross-country road trip highlights.
12. There are only two types of people in the world: those who bring energy, and those who drain it away… I realized that for every relationship, not only do I have to be accountable for the energy I bring, but I also have to take responsibility for the energy that I allow from others.
This quote from The Wisdom of Sundays really spoke to me.
Adore Oprah as much as I do? Check out my favorite empowering quotes from her book here.
13. There is nothing more vital to you life than living an authentically empowered life. I appreciate these words so much, as being our honest selves and doing the things we love is the only way to find real happiness.
14. The root of joy is gratitude.
15. To be healthy means that you must not only learn how your body works and what it needs to be healthy, but you must also apply that knowledge as consistently as you can towards making the best decisions and you can achieve that health. It’s an ongoing endeavor, not a one-time deal. This is why knowledge is powerful – because when you really know something inside and out, you can see all of the opportunities to apply that knowledge through action every single day.

16. Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.
17. The universe has my back. Phew, it can be tough to really believe this one when you feel like things in your life keep going wrong, but I really truly believe that things happen for a reason. Sometimes it’s hard to recognize those reasons until long after, or perhaps you never can figure it out, but I strive to put my trust in the universe that life is unfolding the way it’s supposed to.
18. Healthy striving is self-focused: “How can I improve?” – Perfectionism, is other-focused: “What will they think?”
We’ve all gotten stuck in a perfectionist trap at one point or another, and I really like how this quote reminds me that the healthy way of progressing in life is to look inward and to not worry about what others think so much.
19. The only thing in your control is effort. That’s all and that’s everything.
20. Good energy is contagious.
21. Turn your wounds into wisdom.
I know, I know, I included three Oprah quotes in this list… but she’s just too damn good! We all have things that we’ve struggled with in life, but it’s a wonderful thing to be able to take those experiences & be able to grow from it & turn it into a positive aspect of your life.
I shared this quote the week that I published a blog post that talked about how I became a foodie health nut, and how I feel that my years of struggling with feeling like the “big” one in my family & dealing with unhealthy food & exercise behaviors led me to become passionate about leading a healthy lifestyle, & eventually to work in health & wellness to share my knowledge with others. Check out my post, Turning Challenges into Strengths: How I Became a Foodie Health Nut.
22. Whatever comes, let it come. Whatever stays, let it stay. Whatever goes, let it go. I shared this quote when I was again focused on tapping into the power of the universe.
23. Say yes to new adventures. After all, what’s life if not a big adventure?
24. Your value doesn’t decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth. Yes, yes, yes!
25.) What is creative living? Any life that is driven more strongly by curiosity than by fear. I recently bought Elizabeth Gilbert’s book Big Magic (finally!) and am looking forward to diving into it.
26. Life is tough but so are you. {insert muscle arm emoji}
27. Women belong in all places where decisions are made… It shouldn’t be that women are the exception. I shared this quote after last November’s election put more than 100 women in the House of Representatives. The election shattered America’s record for women elected – along with many ‘firsts’ of LGBTQ, Native American, and Muslim women being elected. A government more representative of our diverse society is definite progress!
28. You get in life what you have the courage to ask for.
29. Be a “passionist”; not a perfectionist.
30. A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.

I really want to see the new RBG movie! My mom saw it & said it was excellent. I don’t think my hubby is all that into seeing it- If only we lived close to each other still….

These quotes are perfect for the start of a new year and it would be great to refer back to them for a nice reminder. Happy new year to you Nicole!

Thanks Marcie! I’ll be keeping the quotes coming in 2019 🙂
David @ Spiced says
You’ve always got great quotes, Nicole! #8 especially resounded with me. Integrity is tough. It requires us to make unpopular (and often difficult) choices, but we have to be guided by the fact that we’re doing the right thing. I used to work in the Office of Student Integrity at GaTech, and I had many, many conversations with students about choosing the right thing. Thanks for the list of inspiration here, my friend!
