Hey, hey!
I haven’t done a day in the life type of post in awhile, so today I’m sharing what one day last week looked like for me. I’m also joining in on Arman’s What I Ate Wednesday party!
The reality TV lover in me always finds this type of blog post interesting, but if it’s not your cup of tea, tune back in on Friday or check out my pumpkin chocolate chip cookie recipe from earlier this week.
Since I work from home and do a few different things for a living, my schedule can vary a lot. The day before this, I worked for 9 hours straight, then took a class at a fitness studio in the evening. The day after this, I went grocery shopping in the middle of the day, then was working at 9 pm… so the point is, I like to change it up and my schedule all depends on what work I’m doing & what else is going on in my life!
7:30 – Wake up, get dressed & ready, feed my pup, and check my publicist work emails while drinking a glass of water. I always wake up thirsty!
8:15-9 – I do a morning workout of 20 minutes of yoga + 20 minutes of spinning on my bike trainer. I’ve been using that equipment a lot lately!
9-11:15 – I make a chocolate cherry protein smoothie for breakfast, and work on a couple of different work things.
My smoothie contains: 3/4 cup frozen cherries + 1/2 scoop chocolate plant-based protein powder + 2/3 cup chocolate almond milk + 2 TBSP chocolate powdered PB + 1 TBSP cocoa powder.
11:30-12:15 – I have a conference call with a client of the public relations agency I work for.
12:15 – I get ready to leave for a health coaching session – well, it’s more accurate to say that I hurriedly rush around my house getting my stuff together (I anticipated that my call would be a bit shorter), getting changed into non-workout clothes.
12:30 – I leave for my session at Starbucks, noshing on a bar along the way. A San Diego rarity occurs during my drive: it starts raining! I had to take a minute to re-learn how to use my windshield wipers because I haven’t driven in the rain in so long, no joke. It’s kind of a nice weather change, and when I get to the coffee shop, I elect to grab us a table outside under the awning.
1-2 – I hold a health coaching session with a client with rain drops falling as our background noise. We go over a variety of things, and I take some notes and give her a ‘homework’ assignment, all as I sip an herbal tea. She’s doing well and I’m happy with her progress!
2:30-4:30 – I make a quick late lunch of an apple + a slice of wheat toast with peanut butter, honey + apple pie autumn granola & cinnamon sprinkled on top, and get to work on a few PR assignments.
4:30 – I had been waiting for the rain to stop to take Harley out, but at this point she’s a very antsy pup and it’s still raining, so I decide to change back into workout clothes and just go out for a walk in the rain. Harley used to be a brat about being in the rain, but in the last year or so, she doesn’t seem to mind it as much.
She does very cutely wipe her face with her paws and shake a lot – because she tends to be a bit of a drama queen! – but we walk around the neighborhood for a solid 20 minutes in some drizzly weather. We return home, I clean her muddy paws, get the mail, and am happy to find a Lenny & Larry’s Complete Cookie package at my door (yea!).
I ordered a box of their double chocolate cookies + one of their 2 oz sized cake batter cookies online via the Vitamin Shoppe, who was having a sale & shipping for free. I promptly hide most of the cookies from my hubby, who would eat them all in a week flat if I left them out! Shhh.
Side note: I’m loving the smaller, single portion cookies!
5-6 – I do an at-home strength training + kickboxing workout while watching an episode of the Million Dollar Matchmaker – my recent workout TV obsession. I like to watch mindless TV when working out/doing blog work/answering emails/I’m about to go to sleep so that I can easily multi-task or relax. Now that it’s football season, I love tuning into a game while getting my workout in!
6:00 – I missed calls from a girlfriend and my mother-in-law earlier in the day, so I call both back and connect with my mother-in-law. We chat while I make dinner.
I’m in desperate need of going food shopping, so I scrounge together some ingredients for dinner: farfalle pasta with sautéed zucchini, pepper, onion & spinach, with a bit of butter and parmesan cheese.
6:30-7:30 – My hubby gets home, and we check out the rainbow outside, eat dinner together and catch up on our days.
At this point I also start having an allergy attack. I’ve always had allergies to a variety of things, and Harley has been shedding a lot lately (During normal shedding times she doesn’t bother me). I’ve also been experimenting with weaning myself off of my allergy pill, which I’ve been taking daily for awhile, because 1.) I don’t really like taking anything daily, and 2.) I read some research that suggests taking daily antihistamines may interfere with metabolism.
I’ve been trying to use essential oils as an allergy helper, but it seems that every day I try skipping the meds, I have an allergy attack. I get super itchy, and start constantly sneezing and breaking out in rashes. Whomp whomp.
7:30-8:15 – I put together a grocery store list for shopping the next day and decide to take my allergy pill. I also give Harley her nightly treat (which she starts whining for promptly at 7 daily) and play indoor fetch with my fur ball while keeping my distance, since she’s very energetic from not playing in the backyard all day as she usually does.
8:15-8:45 – I hop in the shower, change into PJs, and put away some laundry I had folded the day before. The combination of the allergy pill and the shower make my itchiness subside, thankfully! Wanting to scratch your eyeballs out and feeling chicken pox-like itchiness all over is the worst.
8:45-10 – I answer some work emails, and begin photo editing and writing a blog post that I want to publish the next day while watching an episode of Dateline. Murder & crime mysteries are my other usual TV go-to!
10:00 – I shut down my technology for the day, close up my house, and head into bed to relax for the night. I can’t remember what my hubby had on TV, but I fall asleep around 11.
That’s a very real day in the life for ya… one where I didn’t eat a veggie until dinnertime & ate less produce in general than I strive to, had allergy problems, and was super busy all day! What can I say? That’s reality for you. 🙂
Tell me… Do you have allergies? What’s your go-to type of TV show?

I loooove those smaller single portion cookies! They’re SO GOOD!
And it made me laugh that it never rains there because it’s literally pouring here right now!
foodielovesfitness says
Ha, yeah San Diego is the desert & rain is a rarity. I think that was the first time it rained since March!
rachel @ athletic avocado says
I still need to try Lenny and Larry cookies, I’ve heard so many great things about them! DO you like them better than protein bars?
foodielovesfitness says
Well, I definitely look at the cookies more as a healthy treat, & protein bars are more everyday snacks for me. Definitely give em a try!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I had those days WAY too much this week! Thought I do think a plant-based protein powder should count as a veggie. LOL!
The rain really way a nice change. I was just saying how much I miss a good thunderstorm. That huge clap of thunder had me jumping up at 2am. I thought it was an earthquake because it shook the house so badly!
In other news… there are single serving L&L cookies now?! I’ve never tried them because I’m like “how would I eat half a cookie?!” Now imma be all over that. But first… Italy!
foodielovesfitness says
Thanks for that, pea/soy protein should totally count as a veggie! Oh really? I didn’t even hear thunder at my house! And yes, they make single serving cookies now, but they’re tough to find… So I ordered them online 😉

What a fun post, Nicole! I love hearing how other folks stay out of trouble during the day. 🙂 We often start our day with a workout, too…although the workout is now at home on interactive workout bikes rather than in the gym. (We have to get up way early to squeeze the workout in before a certain baby wakes up.) But other than that I echo your day quite a bit. Lots of emails/meetings/photo editing. But it’s a great gig, so I can’t complain too much. Oh, and I fall asleep well before you do! Oh, and crime shows are definitely an addiction around here, too!
foodielovesfitness says
Actually, my AM workout was at home too! I’m totally not the person that goes to the gym at 7:30 in the morning… I actually like to talk to as few people as possible before 9. Ha!

I love when I use up all my groceries! I have been actively trying to eat EVERYTHING in my freezer before buying anything more – it’s working………. Unless of course, I eat out – which is A LOT of the time! ha!
foodielovesfitness says
Well, I probably still had more food in the house than most people haha I like to keep a variety of food in my kitchen! The problem is that when I start running low, I’m always missing things to make full meals.
Ashley says
Harley is so cute! I want to come give her a hug! haha
And I definitely always find these types of posts so interesting! We’ve had so much rain here lately – and then flooding etc. No good! Anyway! Now I kinda want some farfalle pasta!
foodielovesfitness says
Oooh yeah flooding is no good! So you’re trapped inside with all of construction madness going on?!! Hang in there lady!
Nikki @ will run for pizza says
I quit buying the Lenny & Larry’s cookies, b/c I was bummed they were 2 servings….I didn’t realize they started making them in single servings! I’m gonna start buying them again! 🙂
foodielovesfitness says
Yes! I know. I’m with you… With the larger ones I eat 1/2 a cookie & give my hubby the other half!
Britt@MyOwnBalance says
I totally watch Dateline too! Pete things I’m crazy but I love this kind of TV. Although these days we pay for all our TV on iTunes so we can watch American TV in English or we watch Netflix so things like Dateline go out the window unfortunately! I love your day in the life! You have a perfectly balanced healthy day! I have terrible seasonal allergies but living in a subtropic climate they don’t bother me. The same was true when I lived in Australia. It’s definitely a bonus!
foodielovesfitness says
My hubby thinks I’m nuts for watching those types of shows too! Thanks Britt, I definitely try to have a good balance in my days – doesn’t always happen but the majority of the time it’s pretty decent! And that’s great about your allergies… Ive always had allergies but didn’t used to have them when I first moved to California. Unfortunately I all of a sudden got them back!
