Hi friends!
Hope that you all had a great weekend. Mine was a really awesome one! My friend Danielle was in town for a few days, and we had a blast catching up. After picking her up from the airport on Friday night, the weekend kicked off with me showing her my house for the first time and catching up over a glass of wine and freshly baked pumpkin banana bread.Saturday morning I gave my friend a taste of my life. First up, we got up nice and early for my favorite yoga class: a rock ‘n roll flow class at Black Sheep Yoga.
After 90 minutes of sweating, stretching, balancing, vinyasa flowing, and finishing in Savasana, we left feeling amazing. Afterwards we grabbed acai bowls in Carlsbad, and then we walked around town and on the beach for a bit before heading back to get ready for the next part of our day.
Next up was a fun evening full of football! Danielle, my hubby, and I headed up to the LA area for our very first USC football game. We met up with my cousin Michelle, and the four of us had a blast cheering on USC – who upset a #3 ranked Utah team. It was awesome!
Sometimes I wish I had gone to a big football college since I’m such a big football fan… but then again, college is where I met my hubby, so no complaints here about my alma mater! Everything works out the way it does for a reason right?
When I asked Danielle what she really wanted to do while in town, her immediate response was, “Wine country please!” So on Sunday, we journeyed over to Temecula for a girls’ wine tasting day.
First up was a tour and tasting at Leoness Cellars – a winery I had never been to before but had heard great things about.
My first impression was that the views were gorgeous from Leoness! We were greeted with glasses of wine and immediately headed into the vineyard itself to learn more about the history of Leoness – a word that means “village of dreams” – and its strong history of farming in the Temecula Valley.
After making our way through the vineyard, we headed into a private tasting area to sip some of their wines. Overall I was really impressed with both their wines and our winery host. I highly recommend doing a tour with Miguel! He was really knowledgeable about not only wine, but also the history of wine and agriculture in the area, and also about food – which Danielle and I both appreciated since we’re both foodies.
I left with a bunch of bottles of Leoness wine, and am considering joining their wine club! I can’t wait to take my hubby there sometime.
Next up we did a tasting and picnic at Frangipani Winery. Compared to the really crowded and bustling Leoness tasting room, Frangipani was extremely quiet and calm. I’m not blown away by their wines, but I had picnicked there before and knew it was a relaxing spot to have a picnic. The views are also pretty from their winery. Plus, they have a winery dog and cat, which is always a plus in my book.
We noshed on hummus, pretzels, cheese, cinnamon almonds and apple slices while catching up and relaxing – and luckily the weather was perfect for a picnic.
Last up for the afternoon was a trip to Cougar Vineyard & Winery. They specialize in Italian varietals, including Sangiovese and Montepulciano grapes. There was a guitarist strumming some live music while we were there, and there was a nice area to sit outside in lounge chairs to sip wine and enjoy the views. They also have a deli where guests can order pizza, sandwiches and things.
Danielle and I split a tasting and hung out for a bit before she grabbed an Uber car to take her out to Palm Springs, where she had to be for work on Sunday night, while I headed back home.
One other thing to note about my Sunday in Temecula: an impromptu purchase of one of the above pictured wine barrels. I’ve been wanting to make an outdoor table out of a wine barrel for awhile now, and couldn’t pass up on the opportunity! I’ll keep you posted on my DIY table project. 🙂
It’s kind of funny that I hadn’t been to Temecula all year, and now I’ve been there twice this month, but I’m definitely not complaining. The whole day in Temecula and our weekend as a whole worked out perfectly and were so much fun!
Tell me… What was the last sporting event you attended?

I didn’t make it all the way through your post before I was googling “wine tasting in chile” and “wine tasting in argentina”. Haha. I love wine tasting so much. Looks like such a fun weekend.
I am not a football fan but I do love watching baseball and tennis!

Me too! I would LOVE to go wine tasting in South America. It’s a little more accessible for you, so you should totally go for it sometime!

I need to get out to a USC game – we went to a college game almost every weekend in Georgia!
I love that you liked Leoness! that was our favorite when we went up there… and we joined the wine club. 🙂 Totally jealous of the wine barrel purchase. I’m in the market.

Fun! My dad is a big UCLA fans, so we’ve been to a game or two. I wasn’t allowed to apply to USC actually – that’s how big of a UCLA fan he is! 🙂

Too funny! UCLA and USC is a great rivalry.

You have the best weekends. 🙂
And it looks like you picked a good game for your first one. Upsetting #3 is a big deal! That’s awesome! I wish I could say the same about the Aggies but they had an UGLY loss to Alabama. Oh well!
I hope you’re having a great week, lady!
