Hello, hello!
Today we’re talking about the local workouts that I’ve been loving! Recently I mentioned that I collaborated on a new project with ClassPass, which means that I’ve been a ClassPass workout crazy person. I think I’m sort of on a mission to try all of the awesome workouts that my health-conscious city of San Diego has to offer, and ClassPass is a great way to explore tons of studios in the area.
Last week my friend Trish and I attended a ClassPass event at Core40 in Little Italy. You may recall me talking about Core40 in Solana Beach before because it’s a total butt kicking workout, and this was the first time that I visited their downtown location.
Since I live in the northern part of San Diego County, I haven’t spent much time downtown lately. The class was at night, but I journeyed down there in the afternoon, walked around a bit and soaked up the city vibes, and worked at Panera Bread for awhile.
The event was a combo class – which means that for 25 minutes you spin, and for the remaining 25 minutes, the class gets put to work on Core40’s Superformer machines.
After doing a few of their combo classes, I’ve come to the conclusion that they just don’t work well for my body due to the fact that I already feel fatigued by the time I get to the strength portion, then I proceed to shake like a leaf and feel weak throughout the rest of class (It’s a little crazy!)… but nevertheless, it was an awesome workout that had me working my hardest for sure!
I also enjoyed getting to meet some of the ClassPass ladies, and Trish and I refueled with complimentary LUNA bars, salad, and coconut water samples afterwards. It was a fun night!
Core40’s regular Superformer classes are awesome total body workouts, and I’ve been taking advantage of my ClassPass membership and attending a couple of classes. You can check out a longer review of the studio from a few months back here.
Another studio that I’ve been loving lately is The Rush Indoor Cycling in Carmel Valley. I tend to get a little bored in regular cycling classes, but at The Rush, their classes keep you constantly engaged. It isn’t just about spinning – there’s also lots of dancing coordination and a section of the class devoted to arm exercises too, and the choreography definitely keeps you engaged. A big perk for me is that the music is always awesome. With the lights turned down low and the music blasting, it’s more like a club scene than a gym! I especially like popping into the studio for a lunchtime Power Hour workout.
Another gym that I’ve worked out at a bunch of times lately is Fortis Fitness & Strength Training. I like that the gym has a variety of classes to do, and I’ve tried their spin, yoga sculpt, TRX and kickboxing classes. It’s also close to my house, which is a nice perk.
I really loved their yoga sculpt class, even though it’s in a warm room. Despite the fact that I normally have no love for heated classes and walked in and immediately thought, “Crap! It’s heated?!”, one benefit of heated classes is that my heart rate is higher the entire time. This equates to a bigger calorie burn, and I can’t totally argue with that, even if I’m dripping sweat the whole time!
I also really enjoyed channeling my inner ballerina during a few classes at The Bar Method in Solana Beach. Their classes are lower impact than a lot of the workouts I do, and I welcome the change. Although I don’t consider myself to be all that graceful, and the instructor fixes my form numerous times throughout each class, I like being challenged in this way. I think that The Bar Method works little muscles that I may not normally put to work, and I like switching my routine up with their classes.
Lastly, Black Sheep Yoga, which I initially found when I first tried out ClassPass when they hit San Diego last year, remains my go-to yoga studio in the area. I just love taking their 90-minute rock ‘n roll class on Saturday mornings! The energy is awesome, and the class is a perfect balance of challenging poses, fast yoga flows, stretching my muscles out and working on flexibility, and spirituality and relaxation.
Tell me, what workouts have you been loving lately?
While ClassPass has provided me with complimentary membership, I was not compensated for this post. I simply wanted to share some of my favorite San Diego area workouts as of late!

Ooo fun! These workouts look amazing!! It makes me miss the US. 🙂
I started going to pilates here, which is hilarious since I can’t speak Portuguese and it is an equipment class, which is more like a one-on-one session. I also started going to spinning, which is way easier to understand!

Oh my goodness…. You have to just kind of read their nonverbal cues huh?! I’m looking forward to hearing more about your workouts in Brazil!

Aren’t the reformers amazing?!?! That has got to be my new favorite workout lately! And p.s. even if you didn’t do the combo class, and just did 50-55 minutes of the reformer, you would STILL shake! lol I shake pretty much the whole time. And the teacher just walks around letting everyone know that its OK to be shaking, so i’m not the only one! LOL

Haha, very true – although in the strength only classes, I shake just a little, and in the combo classes, I feel like I shake A LOT!
