While some people feel best eating three square meals a day, I’m much more of a small-meals-and-snacks kinda girl. Typically eating something every three or four hours means that I usually have healthy on-the-go munchies in my purse and car, as well a number of favorite healthy quick snacks in mind. Here are some of my current top snack picks:
[apple with nut butter & cinnamon]
I’ve declared my love for apples before, and lately one of snacks I’m loving the most is an apple sliced with some peanut/almond/cashew butter and sprinkled with cinnamon. It’s a nice mix of healthy carbs, fat and protein, and nut butter has a way of keeping me from being starving a few hours later.
[Blue Diamond honey roasted cinnamon & honey dijon almonds]
While I’ve been a fan of Blue Diamond almonds for awhile, recently the company sent me a few flavors of their nuts to try that I hadn’t gotten my hands on yet. Almonds are perfect for an on-the-go snack, and they came especially in handy this week while I’ve been in Las Vegas for work. One night I came back to my hotel room starving, and a few handfuls of Blue Diamond almonds came to the rescue until I had dinner in front of me.
Almonds are one of my favorite nuts, and since I have an obsession with both cinnamon and honey, their honey roasted cinnamon flavor is my favorite. I also like the honey dijon almonds for a bit of salty satisfaction.
[banana with pb + chopped dates]
I usually eat 1/2 banana every day in some shape or form (hello potassium and a slew of other benefits!), and in recent weeks, smearing some peanut butter on one and topping it with chopped dates has been my favorite combo. So good!
[Siggi’s yogurt]
I’ve been digging the Siggi’s brand of Icelandic yogurt for awhile now. While some yogurts have a lot of sugar in them, Siggi’s keeps the amount of sugar lower than the amount of protein, is made with milk that comes from grass fed cows, has no artificial flavors or preservatives, and a couple of other things that health-conscious eaters like to see. Their yogurts are thick, a little tart, and very wholesome and natural tasting to me, and at about 100 calories a pop, they make for a great little snack to hold you over while dinner’s cooking or as pre-workout fuel.
[chocolate banana protein quesadilla]
This small meal or bigger snack is a sweet tooth play on quesadillas! I take a chocolate peanut butter Quest bar, microwave it just until softened, then use a butter knife to spread the bar on one half of a whole grain wrap. Next I slice 1/2 banana and place them in the wrap, and add chocolate powdered peanut butter (I use either Just Great Stuff or PB 2 brands) on top. I toast the wrap until lightly browned, and voila! It’s ready to be devoured.
[roasted chickpeas]
This snack is one that I need to be home for, because I like to eat the chickpeas right after I roast them, but it’s such a tasty one to get a serving or two or veggies in. Plus, chickpeas are high in fiber, which keeps you feeling satisfied for longer. My favorite way to roast chickpeas is to drain and rinse canned chickpeas, toss them with olive oil, sea salt, and paprika, bake them until crispy, then sprinkle them with these pumpkin cajun bread crumbs.
[chocolate pb protein shake]
I declared my love for this smoothie recently when I posted the recipe, and it’s one of my go-to smoothies for pre-workout eats, post-workout nourishment, or just as a quick lunch to take with me in the car or to drink in my office.
Tell me, what healthy snacks are you loving lately?

Hey, great post! I am a fan of eating every few hours, too. It doesn’t seem to matter how much I eat at one particular meal.. I’m still going to be hungry 3-4 hours later. I haven’t tried the Blue Diamond nuts. They sound delicious but I’d be wary if they’re not GMO free.
I’ve also never tried chickpeas. You have given me some interesting snack ideas, for sure. Thanks! 🙂

Mmm…all of your snacks look scrumptious! I have to have snacks on hand all day long otherwise I turn into a beast. It’s not pretty. I have an apple and yogurt almost every day but I should definitely eat more nuts here and there. Those Blue Diamond flavors sound amazing!

Hahaha Sarah I am the same way! Last night A and I were at a restaurant and I was starving and no one came over to serve us for a good 20 minutes and I was like, “In another minute I’m about to get hangry!!” And I eat an apple and yogurt almost every day too 🙂
