If there’s one thing that I think each and every one of us can do to enrich our lives, it’s to practice mindfulness. Any regular blog readers may recognize this to be a constant life practice that I bring up, because I really believe that living in the moment and appreciating the now are surefire ways to feel happier and lower stress levels.

Today I had the chance to practice at a yoga studio I hadn’t visited before – a rooftop yoga studio and vegan restaurant in La Jolla called Trilogy Sanctuary. I’ll be sharing a full review of the studio soon, but as I participated in a lunchtime vinyasa flow class – feeling the ocean breeze, looking up at the bright blue sky, stretching out in some yoga poses – I couldn’t help but feel appreciative of the moment that I was experiencing.
In the spirit of the gratitude that swept over me today in a moment of mindfulness, I wanted to share some powerful mindfulness quotes that I’m loving. Here we go!

When’s the last time you experienced a lovely, overwhelming feeling of gratitude? Did you practice mindfulness today?

Absolutely LOVE this! It’s such a simple concept that our culture has gotten away from. Just be present! I can only imagine how amazing it must have been to be in that moment, with the ocean right by you, the wind blowing, sun shining….such a powerful moment.

Thanks girl! Very true, it’s a societal norm to always be rushing everywhere in our busy lives… and that creates very high stress levels!
Emily @ Sweets and Beets says

I took a mindfulness class in grad school and I loved it…I need to be better about taking time to be mindful. It gets away from me so easily when life gets hectic!

Very true, it’s easy to push it aside when you’ve got a lot going on… but in fact, that’s the time when we can most benefit from practicing mindfulness!

Love this – these quotes are awesome!!!
(I wanted to tweet this post but couldn’t get it to work when I clicked the link – not sure if it is my computer or what.)

Thanks for letting me know that Kim! It isn’t working for me at the moment either. I’ll need to figure out to fix it this weekend.

I try very very hard to live in the moment and it works for the most part but SOMETIMES I get ahead of myself, and that’s when I start getting alittle nuts, but then I speed check myself! 😉
foodielovesfitness says
Ehh we all get ahead of ourselves sometimes… The good thing is that you’re mindful of being mindful! 😉

These are such great quotes! SO inspiring!! I just love that Jim Elliot one! It’s so easy to think about where I’ll be in the future (especially being in college and what not) and wonder about potential careers/ paths that it can be hard to simply live life in the here-and-now! Thanks for the great reminder!! 🙂
foodielovesfitness says
Definitely, especially when you’re about to graduate college it’s easy to let your mind race about the future. But, college is such an awesome time in life, so I hope you’re enjoying it!
Marielle says
Love this, such a great reminder! I’m def guilty of planning too much and rushing to the next step!
foodielovesfitness says
Thanks, Marielle! I bet that your little baby girl is reminding you to cherish the moment these days 🙂
Tjasa @ Sprinkle of Cinnamon says
I could not agree more in this fast paced world it’s so easy to get caught up in work, commitments, daily tasks… we forget to be present in the moment and appreciate the little things. I’m lovin the quotes you’ve included.
foodielovesfitness says
Thank you, Tjasa! Yes, it’s sad but true. I try to make a conscious effort to pause at least once a day and take a deep breath in, be present & recognize the moment I’m in. It has been really beneficial!
Nikki@will run for pizza says
I love these quotes! I try to live in the moment and be grateful for things and people in my life too. I know I’ve been trying to just “feel” more because I realized that living in the city makes your brain stimulated ALL THE TIME! I didn’t really notice that until very recently because after growing up in the country, I was SO excited to live in a city and enjoy all of the activities and amenities that you don’t get in the country. It’s finally catching up with me though and I’ve been trying to focus on just slowing down and really just enjoying some peaceful, non-rushed, moments where I don’t even think about what I want/need/should be doing.
foodielovesfitness says
YES, city life definitely creates so many more distractions and stimuli and makes it harder to just be in the moment – and most Americans live in cities! I think it’s all about being aware when you’re constantly experiencing that always rushed/always late feeling (which you have) and figuring out how to slow your mind down and create some centeredness in your busy life. Practicing mindfulness is amazing for stress levels & health!
