When people ask me what workouts I typically do, I usually rattle off a list of things: hiking, kickboxing, cycling, strength training, yoga, rowing, barre, and so on. I usually follow it up by saying something along the lines of, “I do a lot of different regimens, but I’m not really an expert at any of them.”
It’s true, I’ve never been into just doing one type of workout. I know that lots of people are strictly runners, or are amazing yogis and that’s their signature regimen, or wherever their fitness passion may lie, but for me, I’ve always wanted to do a bit of everything. I call it exercise ADD, and I figure that as long as I’m moving, it’s good for my body and soul to keep switching it up.
Over the past month, I’ve been trying out ClassPass. You can check out my full intro to ClassPass here, but the overall gist is that it’s a program that just hit San Diego last month that allows members to schedule classes at lots of different nearby studios. I’ve found that for fellow fitness lovers who enjoy variety, ClassPass is a great option.
Scheduling classes is all done on the ClassPass website, and you can filter out options based on day, time, style, and different sections of San Diego. Over the course of the month, I participated in 10 workouts – from barre and yoga, to boxing and kettle bell training. I loved the variety! While I’ve heard from people in other cities where ClassPass exists that it’s tough to get into some of the classes, I personally didn’t have any availability issues at all.
As for any downsides, the ClassPass website can be a bit wonky at times if you want to click around and check out the info for different studios. It certainly wouldn’t deter me from continuing to use ClassPass, but it could get a bit annoying when I was trying to class surf.
Another downside was the distance of a lot of the gyms to my home, only because I live in the northern section of San Diego County. A lot of the studios were a 30-minute drive or more from me. However, I’m confident that as ClassPass expands, a lot more studios will participate. ClassPass is also open to studio suggestions, which is nice.

I love that with a ClassPass membership, you can attend an unlimited amount of classes. You could take a different class every day of the month if you wanted! The one drawback is that you can only attend a single studio 3 times within a given month, which might be a con if you fall in love with a studio… though in that case, I’d think that you might just eventually become a member at that particular studio instead of hopping around with ClassPass.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my ClassPass experience and found it to be a lot of fun. I thought it’d be fun to share the 3 studios that I loved the most via my ClassPass membership, so here we go!
Black Sheep Yoga – While I’ve been practicing on my own or doing DVD/YouTube yoga sessions at home, I had yet to try a yoga studio out since moving earlier this year, so ClassPass was a perfect opportunity for me to do so. Black Sheep Yoga is conveniently located just a couple of minutes from my house, and it was so nice to have been able to find a go-to yoga studio nearby.
I took a couple of evening classes during the week, which was a nice change of pace to contrast my high-intensity workouts. I also did a rock-n-roll Saturday morning yoga class, which I absolutely loved. I felt like it started my day on such a great foot, and I began my weekend with a happy heart, feeling long and limber! Black Sheep is going to be my go-to studio when I feel like taking a good yoga class.
Core40 – I did a full recap of this studio and its LaGree method workouts last week here, but Core40 is a fusion of Pilates, strength training and cardio. I found it to be an awesome total-body workout, and I’ll definitely be doing more of it in the future!
TITLE Boxing – While I only got to attend one boxing class at TITLE Boxing Club due to its proximity to my house – I think it took me 45 minutes to get there, and I timed it up with errands I had to run somewhat near the gym – it reminded me of my love for sweating it out hitting the heavy bag. While I like trying out fancy new gym equipment and all, I also always enjoy the simplicity of working out with a heavy bag and the rawness that every boxing gym I’ve ever been to has. The instructor at TITLE Boxing pushed me to give it my all, and I was definitely sore for a few days afterwards!
Side note: The studio I attended was in San Diego North Park, and I just discovered that they also have a location closer to me in Carlsbad that isn’t (yet) participating in ClassPass.
Tell me, are you more of an expert in one workout regimen, or do you have a bit of exercise ADD like me? Questions about ClassPass?
Disclaimer: ClassPass provided me with complimentary membership, but as always, all opinions expressed are genuinely my own.

So glad you like ClassPass! I’ve heard so many great things about it, and am definitely considering signing up for it or at least trying it out in my post-grad life if I find myself in NYC or SF.

I wish they had ClassPass near me… it sounds so fun!

…Maybe one day they will! Keep your eye out 🙂

This concept is so awesome! I’m totally like you in that I can get bored easily so I like trying everything I can….although I do have an affinity for barre classes!
foodielovesfitness says
Thanks for reading, Marielle! It’s funny, I definitely can easily get bored with barre, though I do enjoy doing it a few times a month.
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy says
I am the same as you, I like to do lots of different workouts as it keeps me interested. Although, it does mean that I never really become great at any of them.
foodielovesfitness says
Haha, I’m sure that you’re great at some of them! Hey, all that matters is that you’re having fun and being consistent with exercising, right??
Nikki @ will run for pizza says
I gotta look that up and see if we have that here! I’m an ADD exerciser too. haha. I do a variety of workouts, but all at the same gym. But I do want to start trying out classes at other gyms this year to just break things up. Plus i’ve been creating workouts for home too, so that’s been different. 🙂 I really wanna try that LaGree method too and I found a place here, but holy expensive!
foodielovesfitness says
Yes, it is pricey… but now that you know that the studio near you participates in ClassPass, you can try it out through them. Wooo!
Nikki@will run for pizza says
Yes! To get a membership at that one gym alone, would be over $200 a month! So with class pass, HOLY CHEAP! I’m on the waiting list for one now, so i’m hoping it opens up soon!
