Happy Halloween everyone!
First off, the winner of my Puritan’s Pride giveaway for the month of October is Paige C. Congrats, Paige! I’ll be emailing you for your address info today so that we can get your prize shipped out stat.
So, I’m sharing a workout with you guys today. WHAT? A workout? I know, although I’ve been sharing plenty of review posts on new workouts I’ve been trying over the last couple months (SoulCycle, Fitwall, Heated Barre, TRX, Yoga Sculpt, etc.!) I haven’t
shared a workout in quite awhile!
Yesterday evening I came home from a marathon of food shopping (because you know I have to go to the food store on the Marine Corps base for some things because it’s much cheaper, then Trader Joe’s for some produce and specialty stuff, then the Vitamin Shoppe for protein bars….) and I totally didn’t feel like working out. I wanted to watch football, but decided that I’d feel like a lazy butt if I didn’t at least do a bit of a workout. I
had also done a quickie HIIT workout first thing in the AM, so I decided to come up with a short routine that I could do while watching football to help make it breeze by.
This workout only requires one dumbbell for one of the exercises, which you could even do without if you wanted to. The workout kicks off with 10 reps of an exercise and progresses to 100 reps by the last exercise, with each exercise upping reps by 10 as you move along. The entire routine is repeated twice, which is nice because it’s conducive to only half paying attention, while using the other half of your attention to watch football/trashy TV or throw your dog her toy to fetch as she jumps around you, if you’re me at least.
Each round took me around 10 minutes, totaling a 30-minute routine that whizzed by, and before I knew it, I was finished, sweaty, and ready for some dinner and relaxation. My heart rate monitor clocked me in at burning 275 calories during this workout. In the spirit of the Halloween candy that most of us Americans are likely to eat at least a few pieces of this week, and because I find that people tend to underestimate calories in food and overestimate calories burned in exercise, I thought it’d be fun to show you guys how many pieces of candy equate to the calories burned during this routine. With this workout, I burned the amount of calories equal to….
(All red Starbursts, AKA the only kinds of Starbursts that I ever will consider eating!)
Do kids even like caramel apple pops? I don’t even care because this is the candy I’ll be giving out the most frivolously… I haven’t had one of these in years and I like lolly pops!
My goal in buying Halloween candy was to buy stuff that I wouldn’t mind having some leftovers of to occasionally munch on, but not candies that I wanted to shove 10 in my face at once. I was just trying to think of what Halloween candies were my favorite growing up, but I’m drawing a blank. I do remember one of my neighbors used to give out full sized Hershey’s bars, so that was always a house we made sure to trick-or-treat at!
Spill it…. What was your favorite childhood Halloween candy? Did you/will you exercise on Halloween? Are you going trick-or-treating with any kiddies this year?

Love that you used candy to show how many calories are burned by the workout! I don’t have a huge sweet tooth but having a visual is always very helpful. I’m going to do this workout today during a Halloween movie. I always tell myself that I’ll exercise during the commercial breaks of a show but I rarely do. It’s such a great idea though!
I think my favorite Halloween candy was anything fruity, gummy, and chewy (skittles, gummy bears, starburst) and mini snickers on the chocolate side. Unfortunately we live in NYC so we won’t have any trick or treaters in our building, but I’m excited to finally have some when we move next year!

No trick or treating for me this year. I’m going to lay low and get some rest!
We have to sign up in my building if we want to participate in trick or treating. I never sign up because the kids usually come way too early (I’m not home from work) and that way I don’t have to worry about extra candy in the house!

Ahhh!! You are so cute! What a fun post idea… and how fun to compare it to the candies!! SO cute! Me and my friend happened to go to GNC on halloween and we got a bunch of free samples of the little vitamin/ supplementary chews! haha… we joked how we went “Trick or Treating!” 🙂

That looks like a great workout! There is something about counting up/down reps that keeps a workout interesting 🙂 always feel better when I “make” myself work out, too. =) Fave childhood Halloween candy has to be Reese’s or Almond Joy … it totally happened on Friday 😉 😉
