Chocolate peanut butter. Strawberry vanilla. Chocolate covered cherry. Basically friends, I’m totally smoothie crazed. And those are a few of my favorite smoothie creation combos.
But sometimes, instead of just making a smoothie to drink in a glass, I like to put my blender to work to make something a bit thicker. I then pour my creation into a bowl and eat it with a spoon, because I’m fancy like that.
Recently I nabbed some frozen green figs for the first time from Trader Joe’s. I know that fresh figs are in season, but I wanted to use frozen ones to make some sort of smoothie since frozen fruit is the best for making creamier creations.
Chia seeds and honey seemed like complimentary ingredients to my frozen figs, and I also included cashew butter because it’s my new obsession.
My mother-in-law flew into SoCal today from Jersey to visit for a bunch of days, and earlier she commented on how many nut butters I have. I believe her exact comment was, “I’ve never seen so many peanut butter jars in one cabinet.”
Good point, I think I may have nut butter hoarding issues! But seriously, I could eat this cashew butter with a spoon and call it lunch. And I have a very logical explanation for my dozen nut butter jars: There’s a nut butter for every mood I have. Obviously.
I topped my smoothie bowl with more honey and granola – but not just any granola, one that I created myself from MixMyOwn. MixMyOwn allows you to create your very own healthy breakfast cereal mix using premium, wholesome ingredients. Recently the company reached out and offered to have me customize my own bag of breakfast cereal.
It was fun to play around on their website and decide what ingredients to choose – with options of everything from apple chips, figs, and freeze dried oranges, to cashews, coconut and pumpkin seeds. My granola creation included oats, dried blueberries, honey, almonds, chia seeds, cacao nibs, bee pollen and vanilla bean, among other yumminess. It made a great addition to my smoothie bowl, and I’m sure I’ll be topping other yogurt and smoothie bowls with more of my MixMyOwn cereal!
