I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I love to start my day off with some movement. During the week I’m typically sitting down working a lot of the day, and it’s nice to just begin my day with either a long walk with Harley, some yoga, or a quickie workout that wakes my body up. It may just be the endorphins flowing, or perhaps it’s the way that movement makes me feel like I’m setting a good tone for the day, but I really think it gives me more energy throughout the morning and afternoon.
In the spirit of morning workout love, I’m sharing with you a workout sequence I created last week as a way to get that first thing in the AM movement in. The workout itself takes only 15 minutes. With around a minute of dynamic stretching to start, then a few short minutes of stretching at the end, it takes less than 20 minutes to do, making it an awesome quickie workout to begin your day on a positive note!
I should note that while I like to exercise a bit when I wake up, I actually prefer to have my real workout later in the day. This is probably because I don’t like waking up super early! Case in point: This morning I set my alarm for 6 AM to squeeze a workout in at my hotel’s gym since I’m in Vegas at the moment… but I totally snoozed through it and opted for the extra sleep. Instead of an AM exercise session, I worked out at 8:30 PM this evening after work. Whatever works best right!
Question: Are you also a fan of getting some exercise in first thing in your day?

This is a great quickie workout! I sometimes get up and do a quick workout in the morning before work if I’m not doing my full workout in the am. I also sometimes do a little bit of yoga before bed to help me unwind and sleep better!

Totally agreed, yoga makes me feel so loose and limber and relaxed.. I like to do it in the morning too because it makes me feel rejuvenated!

I wish I was a fan, but sadly I am not. I am all about laying in bed until the last possible minute though 🙂

Hehehe. I hear ya, because like I said, I am NOT a 5 am gym-goer. Luckily with my schedule, I don’t have to do that to myself!

This looks like a great little routine! I’m a mix of a morning and night time exerciser. I go for a few morning runs a week and do classes a couple of nights.

Sounds like a nice mix of AM and PM workouts!

I seriously wish I was a fan! I’m just not. It’s usually because I stay up too late though. I’ve always been a night owl, and prefer to work out at night. However as I’ve gotten a bit older and work normal 8-4 full time hours, I try to change that. It’s hard though when you’re partner is a night owl too. He often sleeps straight after work so it puts our sleep cycle way out of whack!
I do love how I feel for the rest of the day if I exercise in the morning though…provided I’ve had enough sleep. I find it kick starts the healthy thoughts in the morning =o)

I totally get what you mean, I’m more of a night owl too. I’d much rather work out at 7 pm instead of 7 am! But like I said in the post and as you mentioned, doing a mini workout first thing in the day feels great!
