Hi friends! I’m linking up to the Fit Tip Tuesday party over at Lisa at The Skinny on Health again this week. My topic today is one that I’m confident everyone can relate to: finding that oomph to exercise when you just don’t feel like it. I thought I’d share my tips of how I push myself to go workout on the occasion that I’m not in the mood for it, so here we go!
1.) Read motivational quotes – A quick way that I pump myself up to go exercise is to check out some fitness and life quotes like these…
2.) Pump up the music – Sometimes all I need to find my fitness motivation is to change up my gym playlist or download a few new songs that get my body moving. A few of my current favorite tunes include:
- Colbie Caillat “Hold On”
- John Newman “Love Me Again”
- Ellie Goulding “Burn”
- Beyonce “Drunk in Love”
Perhaps that last one is a tad inappropriate for me to blast on the sound system in my gym’s aerobics room, but I don’t even care because I just love it. Plus it makes me think of Vin Diesel’s video dancing to it, and that has been cracking me up for a week now!
3.) Check out fitness blogs or magazines – If I need some extra oomph to get my butt to the gym, I like to take a few minutes to read fitness blogs or magazines. It just gets me in a workout mindset and sometimes even gives me ideas of moves to try that day.
4.) Bribery – Sometimes I’ll use a little self-reward system. It usually plays out in my head something like this, Okay if I get a good workout in, I’ll treat myself to a pedicure/glass of wine/fro yo today or later this week!
5.) Remember my reasons for exercising – Sometimes just taking a moment to think about or write down a few reasons why I workout is all I need to get me motivated. I honestly enjoy challenging myself through exercise and love the feeling of my endorphins pumping, and that’s usually all I need to think about to get my butt in gear if I’m lagging!
What are your tips to finding the motivation to workout?

Great tips! i definitely use music as a motivator! I also like to try new things because it keeps me motivated to workout even if I’m feeling blah.

Well I’m currently lying in bed coming up with every excuse not to go to the gym…but I haven’t been in 2 weeks and I haven’t gotten out of my sweats all day so as you can imagine, this post helped! If only you were here yelling at me! That would help..

Muwahaha…. hope that this post made you hop out of bed and hit the gym – no need to change out of the sweats! 😉 Although what I neglected to mention in this post is that here and there it’s good to just take the day off and have a rest day! Besides, you’ve been building muscles with all of the boxes you’ve been lifting during your move right?!!

The way I get motivated to workout is to- Just Do It! I literally don’t stop to think about it. Even if I’m feeling really blah, I just slowly get myself ready and either go to the gym or start a home workout. I always wind up having a good (or at least decent) workout and I ALWAYS feel better after I’m done working out. It’s basically a no brainer- Just Do It!!

There needed to be a Nike swoosh in your comment – Just do it! Ha.
