Happy Friday!
I’m definitely looking forward to my weekend. It’ll be the first weekend I’m home in a month, and I’m planning on relaxing, running some errands, getting a few workouts in and watching some football.
Earlier this week I made a trip to The Vitamin Shoppe to get some goodies. I picked up about a gazillion Quest and Pure bars, electrolyte drink tablets to try, and some new vanilla whey protein powder. Usually I just stick with a French vanilla protein powder, but a new flavor caught my eye:
Vanilla almond sounded like a fun flavor to play around with, and today’s recipe was the very first thing I made with it.
You may be thinking, A smoothie recipe in January?!
Yeah yeah, I know that most people probably don’t drink smoothies in the dead of winter… but this girl here does! I don’t drink them as often as I do in warmer months, but I still get my smoothie fill a couple times a week nowadays. After all, it’s not all that cold in California. Plus I usually drink them A.) En route to the gym where I’m about to sweat my butt off, or B.) At home with a sweatshirt and slippers on near one of my vents blowing out warm air…. What can I say, I really enjoy smoothies!
I pretty much created this smoothie by pulling out everything almond in my kitchen: almond milk, almond butter, almond extract, and of course, vanilla almond protein powder. The smoothie also contains frozen banana and honey because, well, both are awesome in smoothies and big kitchen staples of mine.
And if I didn’t have enough almond goodness in the smoothie, I threw a few whole natural almonds on top for good measure.
