In honor of this weekend’s NFL playoffs games happening – and in what happens to be the morning after the Eagles suffered a crushing playoff loss – today I’m recapping my recent trip to Philadelphia to tour the Eagles stadium, Lincoln Financial Field.
Adam and I surprised my father-in-law with the tour as a Christmas gift. As you may remember, I’m a NY Giants fan, but he’s a big Eagles fan, so we thought it’d be neat to see with him. We started off in the Eagles Pro Shop, which was a huge store with everything Eagles that you could possibly imagine, from normal gear like jerseys and hats to Eagles-clad cutting boards and purses.
It was a group tour with a guide who was very knowledgable about everything about the Philly team. We learned about the history of the team and stadium as we walked through it.
We were taken to the press box, broadcasting room, press conference room, and to one of the fancy schmancy boxes, among other areas of the stadium.
We were also able to go on the field to see it up close. It was a rainy, nasty day out, but we popped out for a picture or two.
One aspect of the stadium that I found to be really awesome is their green initiative. They use solar panels, wind turbines, and motion sensor lighting, and recycle waste and compost leftover food from the games, just to name a few things.
Another thing that was really cool was seeing the players’ locker room. We got to be right where the players are when they get ready for a game. The team had a home game the night before we were there, and a lot of the players had some belongings hung up in their areas.
We found the tour to be really neat and informative. I’d definitely recommend checking it out if you’re ever in the Philly area, or to see if your team conducts group tours of their own.
