Hello, hello!
You know when you’re about to go on a trip and you have about 27 things to do before you leave the next morning? Yup, that’s me right now. This trip is more complicated than usual ones in that I’ll be heading to Amsterdam first for work (which leaves me busy with getting things done for that), then heading to three different countries for vacation. I’m very excited!
But instead of being productive with that stuff, for the next few moments I’m taking a breather and chatting with you all. Forewarning though, this post may be a bit like my brain right now – all over the place and going a mile a minute! Bear with me my friends.
Even though all of the places I’m going in Europe will have people who speak at least some English, it’d be nice to know the basics of the local languages. Thus, I’ve been brushing up a teeny bit on my Italian. My hubby studied German in school, so he has been studying that a little as well. We keep teaching each other words, and it’s fun! I almost died of laughter last night checking out the dictionary in the back of my Let’s Go Italy book. Under the ‘love’ section, here were some of the funny words/phrases they have translated:
- Voluptuous!
- I love you, I swear
- You’re quite a babe
- Leave her alone, she’s mine
- I have a venereal disease
- Not if you’re the last man on earth
Hehehe, those last 2 really take the cake. I also like the phrase, “I feel like throwing up” and “Go away moron” – which are in the ‘bar’ and ’emergency’ sections of the dictionary, though I think they could both be used in bar and emergency situations!
And onto eats, this week I’ve been obsessed with watermelon smoothies. So easy, refreshing and yummy! It’s like dessert, only I made one for breakfast yesterday and today, and also as a post-hike refresher on Sunday. I recommend you make it quick before fall officially starts and watermelon season is really over!
Now onto my recipe of the day: my new favorite green juice!
Not only is this juice packing a nutritious punch, it has got a lot of flavor too! The ingredients thrown into the mix:
Find the recipe below!
My New Favorite Juice: Minty Green Monster Lemonade
Ingredients
- 1 Bosc pear
- 1 Granny Smith apple
- About 3 cups of greens I used a mix of spinach, bok choy, and red & green chard here
- 1/2 cucumber
- 1/2 lemon
- About 2 TBSP fresh mint
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to your juicer.
- Chill in a glass with a few ice cubes, and enjoy!
And now I’m off to get work done, pack (which will probably take me awhile, as always!), run some last-minute errands, then hopefully fit a workout in and have a somewhat calm night before I leave tomorrow. See ya in Europe!

I also have been putting pear in my smoothies and I think it adds a nice ‘tart’ flavor to the usual sweetness. 🙂
I’m so jealous you’re going to Europe! Make sure to take a lot of pictures. When I went to China for the first time, I wanted to brush up on my Mandarin and also bought one of those Lonelyplanet books. They had some pretty funky translations.

Agreed, I’m digging pears in smoothies.
Oh there will be tons of pictures taken for sure… 🙂
That’s funny that you noticed funky translations in another language book of theirs!
