Have you ever seen someone nutty enough to go to the gym with a cast on (or done so yourself?)?
Well, in the very unlikely chance that you go to my gym, you recently may have… because I’ve been back working out at the gym!
After 2 weeks of staying away from the gym and doing light at-home workouts due to my foot injury, I decided to try going to the gym. Since I only have light weights at home, I wanted to head to the gym to do some heavier upper body strength training.
It certainly has been challenging to come up with exercises where I’m not putting pressure on my foot, but I’ve been managing to do some pretty good arm/back/ab workouts. There has been a lot of sitting on a bench or stability ball, and it’s a bit tough taking it easy… but my improvised workouts and dealing with this injury in general has reminded me of a few things:
All you can do is your best.
Doing something is always better than doing nothing.
No doubt about it, injuries are frustrating. But just as with any obstacles that come my way in life, all I can do is deal with it, have a positive attitude, and do everything I can to be healthy and happy. I’m really trying to embrace this mentality and just keep doing what I’ve been doing – listening to my body, doing the best I can, understanding and accepting that injuries are temporary, and just letting it be for now. With that being said, here’s my quote of the week:
“Always do your best. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.” -Miguel Angel Ruiz
