Last weekend my little family and I headed to a nearby park to get some outdoor exercise.
Adam and I went biking at Harvey Bear Park earlier in the week, and we were in awe of how beautiful it is there. I was also struck by another thing – the cows grazing everywhere. I’m not a country girl and am not used to seeing cattle just hanging out right by me! I knew I wanted to take our city puppy there to have her see them too.
At one point, Harley was having a staring contest with a cow, until the cow started mooing. At that moment, my little city canine tried to bolt the hell out of there. It was so funny!
I thought that cows hanging out in large fenced areas was interesting enough…
…until we came across a part of the park where the cows were just hanging out nearly on the trail! I’m sure all your country folk reading this are finding my amusement with cows comical. 😉
Like a good vegetarian, I obviously felt the need to talk to the cows and say things like, ”I would never eat you!!”
There were also other kinds of animals around the park, including horses riding the trails with their owners. Harley seeing horses for the first time trotting at her was pretty entertaining. She got totally freaked out and hid behind us.
We also saw tons of funny squirrels zipping by, and apparently there are wild pigs in the area. I can’t wait to come across those sometime.
I definitely think we’ll be frequently this park often – it’s gorgeous and massive! There’s just one thing I’m not crazy about: the park seems to have a lot of rules & regulations. When we went biking there, sheriffs of the town were biking around, and we got reprimanded for not wearing helmets. They also said that there’s a 15 MPH speed limit on bikes, and you could get a speeding ticket for biking faster – um what?! I kind of felt like a little kid, and I joked about my run-in with the law just a few days after moving here. But since the fine for not wearing a helmet is $270, I’m planning on buying one ASAP.
As you can see, it was a nice park outing in the wilderness!
