Yesterday marked the end of a major chapter in my life. My hubby is no longer an active duty Marine, and never say never, but at this time, I am no longer a military wife. This day came with a lot of reflection on the past 4+ years. What an adventure it all has been! When Adam decided to become an officer in the Marine Corps, I had no idea what was to come. I was finishing up college, and we had been dating for a bit over 2 years. At first I wasn't even sure if I could endure being a military girlfriend, but I remember the exact evening while he was in training when I made my mind up that I was going to stick it out with him, through whatever craziness came our way. This was hands down the best decision I've ever made in my life. There were plenty of people who made me think that we ... [Read More]

Product Review: Polar FT40 Heart Rate Watch
A few months ago, I reviewed a heart rate monitor from Sportline that I wasn't too happy with. After writing that post and knowing that I needed a better watch to work out with, I reached out to my fellow Girls Gone Sporty ambassadors to see what their picks were. I received some great feedback from some women and decided to go with a Polar heart rate watch, or what they refer to as a training computer. If you're curious as to how wearing a heart rate monitor during exercise can benefit you, check out an article I just wrote on FitKit on this subject here. I've been reluctant to try a sport watch with a chest strap, for the simple fact that I was convinced it would annoy me. I guess I'm weird in that I hate things bothering me during workouts. For instance, my iPhone armband ... [Read More]
Green Juice of the Week: Pineapple Sunrise
After taking a few days off from making green drinks, this morning I broke out my juicer to whip up a new concoction. The juicer is quite a bitch to clean (okay, I may be exaggerating here - it probably takes 3 minutes to clean, but it's still a pain!), but I'm a fan of getting so much goodness in one little drink and starting my day off healthily! I just lovvveee pineapple. It brings me back to my trip to Thailand, where I ate some of the fresh fruit probably every day I was there. This drink may look green, but all I could taste was a yummy combo of pineapple + orange. I'll definitely be making this one again soon! Pineapple Sunrise 1 1/2 cups of fresh pineapple1 large carrot1 cup of kale (center ribs removed)1 navel orangeA large handful of raw spinach Combine ... [Read More]
My First Taste of San Jose
Why hello there! I can't believe it's Monday night already. The weekend and today just flew by. My weekend was a bit of a whirlwind and a lot of fun! I kicked off Friday evening meeting my friend Angi, her hubby John, and their baby Zoie with Adam for dinner in Coronado: Angi lives in Arizona now and I haven't gotten to see her awhile. I also got to see her baby girl, who is getting big so fast and is absolutely beautiful. I miss my friend and it was great getting to chat face to face a bit! Saturday morning I awoke bright and early to take Harley to the pet resort (who was not a fan of waking up early or going there!) and get on the road for San Jose. Adam's job starts up there in just a couple of weeks, so we traveled up there to scope out the area a bit and find a place to ... [Read More]
Risotto Caprese
A bunch of years ago when my hubby and I had just started dating, we went on a dinner date to a restaurant called The Risotto House. I remember that neither one of us were sure what risotto was and had to ask the waiter, who as I recall, looked at us like we were complete morons. Fast forward to now, and I get why the server thought the idea of us not being familiar with risotto was slightly ridiculous. I've since eaten it out at restaurants many times in Italy and also here in the states, and have made some awesome meals centering around it, including my recent dinner of sun-dried tomato risotto balls. Risotto is an Italian rice dish, that, when cooked the right way patiently standing over the stovetop continuously stirring it, comes out creamy and bursting with flavor. The other ... [Read More]
Chickpea & Brown Rice Salad
Hi there! I spent a couple of hours this evening volunteering at the Humane Society, and got to play with some pretty adorable dogs. Getting good pictures of puppies is a nearly impossible task: Such sweet little puppies! Moving onto food, today I'm sharing all of my eats for the day: My breakfast today was packed with a ton of vitamins and nutrients: I'm keeping up with my green juice a day! A few hours later when my stomach was growling, I threw together this salad: In the Mix: Radicchio lettuce mix A serving of Gardein mandarin orange crispy chick'n 1/4 cup dried cranberries 1 TSP sesame seeds 1/2 TBSP sesame oil 1/2 TBSP rice vinegar Adam and I went mountain biking late this afternoon. Post-workout, I whipped up this dinner really quick: Lately I've been putting ... [Read More]
