The past two days were all about celebrating the great things going on in my life. I have so much to celebrate, including these biggies:
First, my hubby just finished his last day of work as an active duty Marine Corps officer. My years as a military wife have been full of ups & downs and lots of adventure. Adam and I have grown so much as a couple, and I’m really proud of how we’ve made it through everything together.
Secondly, we received word last week that Adam has been offered a civilian job that he really wanted. YEA! The job is in San Jose, so we’ll be moving very soon to Northern Cali. I absolutely adore San Diego and will be a bit sad to leave here, but I am super excited to move up to the Bay Area. Wine country! Redwoods! San Fran! I can’t wait to explore up there and am confident that it’ll be a blast.
As I’ve been talking about lately, my grandma’s cancer removal surgery was successful, and she’s doing so well. She’s currently in a rehab facility and is itching to get out soon, so I know that she’s getting back to her normal self. I’m so happy!
Adam and I missed Valentine’s Day together, so this weekend was also our belated V-Day celebration.
Saturday started off with a trip to the Little Italy Farmers’ Market. I haven’t been there in awhile, and it was nice to walk around, soak up the sunshine, and pick up some goodies:
Afterwards, we picked up Harley girl and headed to the park to hike around and have a picnic. My friend Danielle gave me this cool backpack that contains everything you need for a picnic and I got to try it out:
It looks like a normal backpack, but then when you open up one of the compartments, it has silverware, plates, napkins, a cheese cutting board, salt & pepper shakers and more. So neat right? The backpack comes with a spot to put a bottle of wine and wine glasses, so I obviously had to bring some! We had to balance our glasses against my sneakers since we picnicked on a bit of a hill:
I brought some of my farmers’ market picks for our lunch. The picnic included pita chips with garlic dip and fresh bread, a clementine, cinnamon almonds, and an heirloom tomato + mozzarella salad:
We had fun relaxing, munching and sipping wine. Adam also enjoyed a cigar, while Harley enjoyed eating lots of dirt and sticks (no joke!) because she’s a complete nut (who I’m convinced has Pica…).
Last night Adam and I headed to Coronado for dinner at Il Fornaio. The restaurant is a favorite pick of ours not only because of its consistently delicious eats, but also because of its awesome location right on the water.
Not too shabby huh? I didn’t snap many photos at dinner, but our meal was yummy and included this appetizer of crispy pieces of asparagus, artichokes, zucchini and onion:
YUM.
My Sunday was spent mostly outdoors. This morning was full of movement, including running around the neighborhood with Harley and playing tennis with Adam. I was happy to see that my FitBit clocked my mileage at over 10,000 steps before noon. Love when that happens!
This afternoon, Adam and I had reservations for a fun outing – whale watching! I purchased a LivingSocial deal awhile ago and was excited to use it.
Can you spot the animal in the following picture?
What a great life for this dog right?!
There was even a boat docked there named after me! 😉
Our whale watching cruise was a 3-hour outing that left out of Mission Bay. Unfortunately we didn’t see any big whales, but we did see tons of dolphins and sea lions. After many failed attempts, this is the best picture I got of the dolphins jumping out of the water right next to us:
Even though we didn’t see the big guys, we had a lot of fun cruising around. The only downside of the trip was that people around us kept getting seasick and throwing up off the back of the boat. Yikes, luckily we kept our lunches down!
It’s safe to say that I had a great weekend!

What a nice life! I think I saw my boat–or was it yours? I love how you celebrate your life–and you make eating an art form–and it’s healthy! You’ve inspired me to eat a little more healthfully and do it in a way that is more pleasing to the eye as well as the stomach.
