”Enjoy the little things, for one day you make look back and realize they were the big things.”
When my Marine is deployed, I often think about the little, everyday things I enjoy doing with him – eating dinner, holding hands, watching a movie. These are things you don’t necessarily think about too much when you’re always with your partner, but when you’ve faced significant stints apart, I think they are certainly more likely to cross your mind. Having been separated from my hubby a lot makes me appreciate these small things more.
On one of my hiking adventures with Harley earlier this year when Adam was away, we passed a scenic, seemingly tranquil area that looked like a nice spot to hang out. I remember thinking that I would have loved to have a picnic with my hubby there at that very moment. Yesterday, several months after I first had that thought, my little family and I spent the afternoon at the park. I brought lunch for us, and knew just the spot I wanted to eat. We hiked around for an hour (nothing too crazy since I’m rehabbing my calf), and then settled at the very spot I had longed to picnic with my hubby.
Our park trip was very simplistic – getting some exercise, enjoying the weather and environment, eating an easy lunch, watching Harley run around like a maniac, spending time together – but it was exactly as wonderful as I had envisioned. Picnicking reminded me of something: sometimes the little things in life really are the big things. Here are some shots from the afternoon:
As this week kicks off, may you be mindful of the little things that you love. Take a moment to enjoy them and realize the beauty in life’s small pleasures. Have a wonderful Sunday!
