Recently my hubby has brought up the idea of camping a couple of times. He's a Marine and is definitely the rugged type. I, on the other hand, would not necessarily describe myself as rugged. However, I do consider myself to be open-minded and adventurous, and since I had never been camping before, I decided that I can't knock it until I try it. With that, camping became the center of our weekend agenda! In order to get my full approval to go camping, I had a few requirements that Adam agreed to: 1.) We must incorporate apple picking into the trip. 2.) Wine drinking must be on the agenda. The plan was for Adam, Harley, and me to head out to Julian, a town we recently visited for a grape stomping event. Before going to the campgrounds, we decided to go wine tasting at Eagles ... Kiwi Lime Smoothie
For the past several years, I have not been a fan of lime. I think it's mostly because I've been scarred from a, uh, night of too many tequila & lime shots a long time ago. However, I now think that my lime hating days are over! Recently I've had a few key lime martinis and have enjoyed them, a couple weeks ago I started munching on key lime gum and didn't mind it, and then today I drank this: Bright and early first thing this morning, I took Harley hiking. Besides Harley's continuous attempts to eat random poop on the ground due to her electing not to eat breakfast before we went (yeah, gross!), it was a typical hike for us -- which means it was full of sweat, elevated heart rates, tired legs, and lots of endorphins flowing. When I got home, I wanted a nice cold smoothie to help ... [Read More]
Easy & Healthy Vegetarian Dinner Ideas
Here's a fun little fact: October is National Vegetarian Month! (source) As a long-time vegetarian, I've talked to many people about a meatless lifestyle. Some say, ''Oh I could never be a vegetarian. How do you do it?" while others are more open to trying out vegetarianism, but express concern for not knowing where to start. I think that sometimes people are so used to meat being a main part of their meals, they just can't picture eating dinner without that piece of chicken, steak, or pork as the main focus. For any readers who fall into the category of veg curious people, or just don't think meat is necessary in every meal, I hope that my blog provides some appealing vegetarian recipes to you! In recognition of a month that strives to raise awareness of a lifestyle I embrace, I ... [Read More]
Celebrating Three Years
Yesterday Adam and I celebrated our third anniversary. We had a low-key night together - I made us homemade minestrone soup, we went to the dog beach with Harley at sunset, and then played cards & enjoyed some yummy red zinfandel at home. A few sights from the beach: Thus far our marriage has been full of adventure and travel. The day after we got hitched, Adam and I moved from the Northeast to Florida for a few months while he finished schooling for his job in the Marine Corps... After that, we embarked on a journey moving to the West coast. We had an amazing time road tripping 2,500+ miles, and got to see some awesome sights across the country. Here are a few of my favorite memories from that trip: We've been separated quite a bit in these past three years. ... [Read More]
My Top 25 Workout Playlist
I really believe that the music you listen to while exercising can make or break your workout. For me, a good playlist can turn my mood from feeling tired and not all that into it, to not only feeling like I can power through my exercise routine, but also focus on what I'm doing and kick some major ass. Music helps me amp up my workouts and put all of energy into it. My gym playlist has around 150 songs. Sometimes I shuffle the song order around, but I like to have some music at the beginning of the playlist that I can count on to get me into the groove. Every few months I add some new music to the list to keep me from getting bored and sick of the songs, and then I switch the order of existing songs around as well. Today was the first time I worked out at the gym since updating my ... [Read More]
