I really believe that the music you listen to while exercising can make or break your workout. For me, a good playlist can turn my mood from feeling tired and not all that into it, to not only feeling like I can power through my exercise routine, but also focus on what I’m doing and kick some major ass. Music helps me amp up my workouts and put all of energy into it.
My gym playlist has around 150 songs. Sometimes I shuffle the song order around, but I like to have some music at the beginning of the playlist that I can count on to get me into the groove. Every few months I add some new music to the list to keep me from getting bored and sick of the songs, and then I switch the order of existing songs around as well. Today was the first time I worked out at the gym since updating my playlist last week, and it definitely helped me to cruise through a spin bike interval session. I switched up my resistance every 3 minutes and completed 20 miles in 65 minutes. I definitely felt my endorphins flowing and was enjoying listening to my new downloads!
My workout music taste is a combo of songs that just make me want to dance (i.e. ”’Don’t Wake Me Up” and ”Feels So Close”), make me feel empowered (i.e. ”Girl on Fire”) and are old favorites that remind me of specific times in my life (i.e. I used to listen to ”Only Wanna Be With You” when driving to see Adam when we were in a long distance relationship). And then I usually throw in a somewhat embarrassing song or two – on this particular playlist I think that’d be a song by boy band One Direction! Here are my top tunes at the moment:
Question: What are you favorite songs to exercise to right now? How important do you think music is to your workout success?

Great playlist! I’ve been looking for a new spin playlist to mix it up, I can’t always get to the spin class at my gym and it’s great to know I can do my own one in my own time. Thanks! My favorite song right now: Here I go Again 🙂
