Happy December everyone!
Can you believe that it’s the start of the holiday season? I was happy to get a lot of Christmas shopping done online in the past week. I love shopping without leaving the comfort of my cozy couch!
Any who, December seems to be the time when many of us fall prey to sniffles and sore throats. With most of us coming across more germs than usual between holiday parties, family get togethers, traveling, and being out and about shopping, plus the colder weather that many are faced with this time of the season, people are bound to get under the weather.
I’ve gotten an upper respiratory thing more than a few times over the holidays. It’s usually the only time that I ever get sick, and while a cold is just a cold, I find it very annoying. It bogs me down and makes me tired, headachy and lethargic. I dread it, which is why I’ve been serious the last couple of years about implementing a couple of proven strategies into my life this time of the year – one of which is getting in plenty of green juice.
Oh, green juice. You jam so many vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals into just one glass or container. All of that goodness helps to build your immune system and combat whatever germs are coming your way!
I like to drink one most mornings to start my day off nice and healthy. I love knowing that by 8 am, I’ve already had a good 4-6 servings of veggies & fruits. Here are a few of my favorite at-home juicing recipes:
- Pear, Apple & Cinnamon Cleansing Green Juice
- Minty Green Monster Lemonade
- Apple & Greens Hemp Heart Juice
- Minty Strawberry Kale Juice
And because I can get lazy with my juicer – that thing is the worst to clean, plus I’m usually super busy in the morning getting my day started – sometimes I nab some fresh juices from the store for an easy grab-and-go option.
Recently Daily Greens contacted me and offered to send me some of their new Probiotic Half Pint Smoothies to try. I love trying new types of juices, and I was even more intrigued by their juices’ added probiotics cultures, which help to support the immune system as part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.
Available in a 12-bottle variety pack at San Diego-area Costco stores for $23, the Probiotic Half Pint Smoothies are set to be available at Costco stores elsewhere soon. They’re crafted with certified organic and non-GMO greens and fruits. The Probiotic Half Pint Smoothies are available in three flavors:
- Greenie – a fruit-and-greens blend with apple and spinach
- Berry Nice – a combination of mixed berries with beets and spinach
- Cocoa Loco – a chocolate smoothie with fair trade cocoa, hemp seeds and wheatgrass
…all of which I absolutely loved! They were all so tasty, and I found them to be the perfect size as morning energy boosters.
And guess what? The folks at Daily Greens would like to send one of you lucky readers a variety box of 6 of their Half Pint Probiotic Smoothies!
To enter the giveaway, simply leave a comment below letting me know your tips and tricks to staying healthy over the holiday season!
Open to U.S. residents only. I’ll randomly select a winner next Wednesday, 12/9.

These juices sound great! I try ward off sickness by getting as much sleep as I can. If I don’t get enough a few days in a row, I inevitably get sick!!
foodielovesfitness says
I’m with you on that… My sleep time is precious!
Brittany @ Barr & Table says
Ooh that Coco Loco sounds delicious! I always try to keep in my normal routine as much as possible around the holidays. When it’s time for a get together, I try to stick to one kind of indulgence, whether it’s a couple drinks or dessert.
foodielovesfitness says
Yep, their Coco Loco flavor is really interesting and yummy!
Heather S says
My suggestions are to wash your hands often, drink plenty of water, and eat healthy, balanced meals with lots of fruit and veggies! 🙂
foodielovesfitness says
Hand washing is a good one! I’m usually really good about that one… Every time I walk into my house from anywhere I wash my hands!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I’d kill to try this. Desperately needed after an epic Thanksgiving trip. Ha!
I’m going back to basics and making sure to drink a gallon of water a day. It keeps me full so I don’t mindlessly snack on treats so much, and it’s great for the skin.
foodielovesfitness says
Staying hydrated is so important! I feel like my energy lags if I haven’t drank enough water that day.
Laura H says
I would love to win this! Sleep, sleep, sleep…that is definitely key and daily vitamins.
GiGi Eats says
I am all about the probiotics!!! Checking these out, NOW!
Britt@MyOwnBalance says
I’ve just gotten really into probiotics recently and I accidentally bought powder instead of pills last time so I’m going to start adding them into my juices. What a cool giveaway!!
foodielovesfitness says
Oh nice! I love throwing extra vitamins/supplements into smoothies… You get a boost and barely even know they’re in there!
vemales says
it’s very tasty , I would love this
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
These look great! I have been buying green juice lately because I am too lazy to make my own but i know I need the extra nutrients this time of year!
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
I am trying to stay healthy by staying consistent with my workouts and planning out meals.
foodielovesfitness says
Planning is key! Without a plan of my meals and workouts, I’m all over the place.
Tiffany says
Normally I would say “rest” but that’s not really happening with a toddler running around the house. I always try to start my day with lemon, water & some cayenne pepper and if I feel anything coming on it’s hot tea, honey & lemon ASAP. You should still be able to indulge over the holidays but know your limits. 🙂
Heather dotson says
Water and getting back into my gym routine and hopefully skiing outdoors soon:)
Looks good.
Brittany says
I usually have one token sick “time” each year, and it always seems to be in January. It’s a coincidence that’s also when I visit my family in Arizona, and my younger brother is always sick. Grrr.
foodielovesfitness says
Oh yea, that is no coincidence lady! Same for me. I’m around so many people over the holidays, and a few of them are always bound to be sick. I’m all I LOVE YOU BUT GET THOSE GERMS AWAY FROM ME! Haha. Airplanes are the worst – I can just feel the germs hitting me! 😉
Sam @ PancakeWarriors says
Greens and veggies are always my go-to anytime of the year to feel my best, and these would be a fantastic way to get more in easily! I’m also a huge believer of moving your body a little bit everyday! Whether it’s taking the stairs or walking around the mall, we could also find ways to easily add fitness to our lives!
foodielovesfitness says
Very true…. Every little bit of movement counts!
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy says
I have been having a green juice/smoothie every day for the past year and I just feel so much better for it. Much more energy!

I try to work out at least 4 times a week while remembering to drink plenty of water (I know it’s hard to remember sometimes since it’s always cold outside). Also, plenty of sleep and daily multivitamins are two of my essentials!

Elderberry syrup — I’ll have to check out more about it! Thanks for sharing.

It’s always great to get that Vitamin D in!

Just moderation when it comes to sweets and special holiday dinners! Depriving myself won’t work! I need to give in sometimes, just not all the time.
foodielovesfitness says
Sounds like you have a nicely balanced approach, Marissa! I’m all for indulging in moderation. What’s life without treats sometimes? 🙂
Darlene Owen says
I eat healthy, get a lot of excerise, take vitamins, get a flu shot.
Sandra says
Coco loco sounds like such a yummy juice! I am really making an effort this year to not be all or nothing when it comes to healthy eating. I want to treat myself but get back on track the next day. Easier said than done sometimes!
foodielovesfitness says
Certainly! But if you set your mind to it, it can be done. One of my favorite quotes is, “Extremes are easy. Strive for balance.” You can do it, Sandra!
brittani adams says
Just trying to not to over do it! I throw in as much veggie sides as I do dessert sides so I try and keep it good.

Good point, stress is a BIG aspect of health. It impacts our bodies in ways we don’t even realize, including a compromised immune system. Keeping things relaxed is a great tip!
